Use Fists of Fire.
You'll want to bust the tail right away so you have a safe zone to operate. Dragon Kick from the rear as soon as you can and stack all your buffs (Quell, BfB, Blindside, Keen Flurry). Repeat with an unbuffed DK as soon as possible. Using Garuda's with capped STR/INT, you should be able to break the tail with 2 DKs. Be light on your feet and time your combos so as not to intersect with Chim's WS, which may be Scorpion's Tail. WHM will need to apply Esuna quickly if you get tagged as the tail inflicts a nasty poison.
During ant phase, approach mages whenever Aura Pulse is up and do the following:
Fists of Wind > Keen Flurry, if it's up > Aura Pulse > Fists of Fire
...then return to Chim while AP is on cooldown.
During sandtrap phase, you'll have to abuse latency depending on where Chim is. Most parties tank him in a corner, so assuming that's the case, you will only be safe at the front and front-flank of Chim or at the rear of Chim beyond the trap.
If you want to combo, say, Howling Fist:
As the trap fires, Pounce.
Start to run away from Chim, but use Demolish as you're going; you'll move out of range, but Demolish will go off.
Now that you're safely beyond the trap, prime your buffs.
As the next trap fires, move in and deliver HF.
It's a similar mechanic to comboing from the front without getting swiped, except you're watching for Chim's auto-attack instead of a sand trap.
Finally, regarding Voice of the Ram: if you're in melee range and not already moving away, you will never outrun it. Instead, plant yourself somewhere that won't put you at risk for a one-two attack (Chim's swipe or a sand trap) and recover with chakra/meds. Of course, be ready to run if he uses Voice of the Ram again!
Blood drops are a better alternative than having a whm have to worry about you. Just make a macro for it and every time you get tagged use it.
Other than that, that's a pretty solid guide.
Fist of wind better against ants or any other reason you switching to wind when aoeing?
Thanks for the guide. I've been wanting to try MNK or DRG on Chimera but the traps scare me.
