2.0 Healing was fun, because you could learn when to cast things and everything would go smoothly. When you join a raid or an alliance raid, you can tell which party has the actual healer and which has the "short queue green dps" because that party would get wiped on easy to heal mechanics, or wipe the alliance.

Power creep has made healing "less fun" because that's just how CRPG's work. That is the strategy you take in all Japanese RPG games, grind till you don't need the healer or healing items. Players expect it to work that way. If you aren't willing to find or buy better gear, then you grind till you don't need it.

What are some of the key things you enjoy about healers? and what's got you excited to play/main them in dawntrail
    • Here are my main personal reasons
    • its fun
    • i can help out my friends
    • i enjoy the glamour
    • i like the supporting job fantasy
    • i feel useful when i can save a wipe

Side note. please do not bring any negative energy to this thread, there are plenty of OTHER threads for you to voice and share those opinions. since many people are afraid to speak how they feel about playing healer, or are new. i want this thread to be a chance for them to have a voice. and please do not engage with anybody causing arguments either. lets keep this a safe space ♥.
How do you feel like the supporting fantasy is there when you use your ogcd on a script in relevant fights, and other jobs can heal themselves just fine in casual content ?

tbh that I dont have to do anything, I mean really when reading a book or crushing on vampire guys on netflix/hulu etc what better job is their to play than healer since you can afk and hit one button every 2mins and be fine lol can just look at the screen hit 2 buttons then back to afk for a page or 2 and it still clears lol

Not much anymore. I enjoy playing them in PVP and that's pretty much where it ends.

Sometimes I kinda like pretending I’m ‘supporting the party’ by casting a Adloquium/Succor shield instead of just slamming Lustrate/Indomitability. Or using Fey Illumination before an aoe for the magic defense boost / increased shields. Using Protraction on tank to improve their self heals. Whispering Dawn is still a buff if you believe hard enough.

Does any of it actually do anything? Nope. Is it a complete waste of both time and resources relative to just hitting Recitation - Indomitability / Excogitation? Absolutely. But idk I just find it fun to support the party, but since that whole playstyle doesn’t/can’t really exist in ffxiv, pretending to be a ‘support healer’ is all I have lol. Though obviously I still (try to) do enough DPS that I’m not literally trolling every party I’m in because I wanted to pretend to myself a 9K Succor HP shield makes any difference whatsoever lol. I will live my Sylphie life…in the closet

the most efficient way to play healer is actually going full dmg of and heal someone if they are below 30% hp.

95% is doing damage and 5% have an actual impact which is healing if under 30% hp.

it is just fun to actually relax playing healer with warrior I am pressing aoe 99% of the time and 1% is clicking random ability to act like making an impact

PvP because it gives me an interesting set of DPS choices and my heals/shields can actually be useful!

I loved healing as 4.0 AST. I love how in other games there's a responsibility to healer and chaos to how much damage is going out, how I have to work hard to actually keep my team alive and it's all I can really focus on, how I have buffs and debuffs and mana concerns and aggro worries. Healing has always drawn me, and I've played it in a ton of MMOs because I've enjoyed it a lot. I haven't played it much in XIV the last few years for obvious reasons, but maybe in the future?

Try playing with typical, random players in roulettes. Even moreso if you do Leveling and get a lower-level dungeon before tanks get their key self-heal abilities. Very different experience than doing top-end stuff with statics comprised of veteran, expert players.

I enjoy when everything goes hectic in a dungeon, or a tank mass pulls before realizing he doesn't have all his skills yet. I enjoy reacting when a DPS picks up 5 vuln stacks with an unavoidable raid-wide coming and I need to mitigate enough to keep him alive. I enjoy being the reason our newer 90 with fresher gear survives on a hunt train when the tree freezes and throws a snowball at him. Just because things can happen in casual content doesn't mean they do. I enjoy being the difference the many times they don't.
