Elpis was not necessary; they could've told that story in a cutscene while focusing on the final days in our world more, more fleshed out and more involved.

For those wanting to put this on ishikawa let me remind you who the producer and director is; he's the one quoted as "I don't like staying the same locations when making content, the more the scene changes, the better." Yoship has what I call a SNES Mario game mentality where the more the scenery changes the better the game's designed. This type of thinking goes against rpg game design, the longer you stay in the same scenery the more in depth and compelling story you can tell. As for where to get that quote? It's from way back in the heavensward/stormblood days; I'll have to get back to the source of it. I'll find it at work when I'm bored. Got Elden Ring to enjoy today.

Elipis was the only decent part of the story tbh, Garlimold destoryed we get a date with sexy zenos but not in our body ANIMA WAS A DAMN DUNGEON FIGHT not a trail (im still really pissed off about that), the other areas really dont matter much at all until 85 outside of comedy
