Part of the fun for me is going into cutscenes with other players and looking at their ridiculous glam. It makes me laugh. Sometimes I go into things with ridiculous glam and other people laugh at me. It’s all in good fun. I think most FF outfits are inherently silly anyway (look at Tidus’s dumb shorts, how is that outfit conducive to playing an underwater sport? The hodgepodge of fabrics and designs in Amano’s art? Random spikes and beads and belts and don’t even get me started on Rufus’s parachute pants!).

All that said, I wouldn’t care if this was an option, but I don’t think it’s worth the development time.

Oh how many times have I, ps5 player, have had some PC+modding acquaintance whom I didn't like that much to begin with come to me neighing and giggling how mismatched/silly my glamour looks like because of their mods.

Ok ok, has just happened 2 times to me, but how did the nickle joke go again?

Well, we can soon hide effin everyone. How is on/off switch for ALL glamours somehow worse?

I have an Idea for the OP. Just don't look at them!

Hi, irl cis woman here. Most of the things people I know wear irl is stuff considered inherently male for several centuries. You know, like trousers. Average non-girly t-shirts with funny quotes or pictures on them. I have two dresses in total and I only got them because my parents-in-laws would hate me if I'd show up in jeans and shirt at weddings. I have worn non-pink clothes even before I went to elementary school. Oh, I also don't have long hair with pigtails or little bows in them. I had long hair during my teenage years because I cba to cut them, but before and after I went with short hair. I don't have one of these weird cocktail dresses or tights for business events either, I went there with a blazer or a pretty top or both and a jeans bc. my arse and legs look ridiculous in anything else but a jeans.

None of these things I mentioned are specifically a me-thing, it's very common standard for all woman I know or see in daily life, maybe aside from a few outliers at business events or banks with a strict dress code. (Hair depends on the person, it comes in all shapes and sizes and colours.) And we only got to this point because enough people dared to oppose the strict standards for what a woman is supposed to wear from early and mid 1900s, maybe even earlier, because if they wouldn't have and we'd live by your "dress = girl" standard, I guess I'd have to burn all my clothes and just be naked. Oh wait, no, that's also not good from what I heard... Hm, bummer.

There are plenty of men out there, cis men, who are shy of wearing anything but this super strict dresscode society upholds because how dare they look not "manly" enough, even though they'd love to. Even just adding some black nail polish is a struggle because of this heavy toxic stigma attached to some kinds of masculinity, especially in Western culture. I rejoice how this game gives men an opportunity to look whatever the hell they want to look like and yes, this includes skirts and dresses, which are btw perfectly fine and male standard in many non-Western cultures. (And you don't even have to look that far, just check traditional very manly scottish kilts.)

Clothes are just as male or female as narrow-minded people declare them to be by some nonsensical made up rules. It sucks enough we have to adhere to these standards irl, don't let this ruin looking awesome in a game.

But I guess if you play a Viera and say racial gear would be just fine, I suppose your or mine definition of "skimpy" is way off, because apparently there is no "skimpy" for you that isn't straight up nude.

(And as said, everyone should wear whatever the hell they want, idgaf, I just don't want my own characters to be forced into a specific style I didn't have a say in.)

One of the AST artifacts is just actually a dress so even being restricted to only artifacts you're still going to get guy dresses. (I wore it for a while anyway)

Racial gear has the aforementioned problem, no glamour means an ugly patchwork in many cases. We can standardize people client-side to avoid frog suits but not to one person's standard specifically.

If you can suspend your disbelief to comprehend 90% of the "we made it up as we went along" plot that was Endwalker/Pandaemonium (not dragging them by the way, I did like them), then you can suspend your disbelief enough handle someone in a frog mask once a fortnight in your trial roulettes. If your immersion is broken that easily, then I suggest finding a new hobby called "touching grass".

This thread is the epitome of complaining about something because you were looking for something to complain about.

The job gears you've given are not skimpy, they are in keeping with the theme of the job. You might not like men in robes or silks but it's still fitting for the job.

Racial gear doesn't matter, I didn't say put people in racial gear. I want the default racial customisation like we would see in char creator and then for players to be in their job gear. I can go through MSQ with the setting on to avoid any moments being ruined then turn it off again once I'm done.

To be fair, I find it immersion breaking if I'm in a boss fight cutscene and the player next to me is a bikini WAR with a frog mask for a face. I get it, you're soo quirky.

The way this would end up being done if it was actually done would end up being the path of least resistance:

    1) Puts "disabled glamour" mode, would disable glamor for all characters, including you, the player. That would be implemented by ignoring all zone-in character data, thus every player you see will only be wearing
    a) The default level 1 gear
    b) A specific undyed relic gear
    c) or the undyed tomes gear for that job at that level

What the game uses would be decided on the level and job of the character.

    or
    2) "disable glamour" at a character level, would disable all glamor a character is wearing when you encounter them
    a) would only show the class or job default gear for the level (see the benchmark for examples)
    b) would disable all pet glamours

What the game uses would be decided on the level and job of the character.

    or
    3) "selectively disable the following items from appearing as glamors"
    a) would give you a free-form search where you disable certain items (eg "the emperor's new X" set) from appearing
    b) right clicking on a character to bring up their gear, and then right clicking on the the glamor to "disable this glamor permanently"
Then the game would just internally swap these pieces with a specific undyed colored tomes gear to indicate that the glamor has been hidden.

The thing is, asking to disable glamor is something that wouldn't improve the player experience or performance since it is asking the game client to look up the model data twice then to check against a feature (for 2 and 3). So I would see SE only ever implementing 1 if they were to offer it at all, or maybe 3 if set at the account level so the game client can generate a gear swap table so it doesn't impair the performance.
