[Dawntrail Benchmark 1.1] Lines on the ears of male miqo'te

    Date & Time: 22/06/2024
    Frequency: Ongoing
World name: FFXIV Dawntrail benchmark V1.1
Area and coordinates: Character creation while using the benchmark

    Steps:
    1. Load the new Dawntrail benchmark V1.1.
    2. Create a male miqo'te (face type doesn't matter).
    3. Observe lines or seams in the different ear types of the hairstyles. This is an issue that has not been fully addressed from 6.58 or the first benchmark.

There's several lines or seams in the ears of male miqo'te hairstyles. All faces are equally affected by this, as ears only change depending on the haircut used and are the same across face types.

Since my previous bug report was moved to "Insufficient information", I had another look at the problem and will try to provide extra examples and explanations on the issue.

The first picture below belongs to patch 6.58:

The red arrows point at two different lines or seams in the ears. One of the lines is moving vertically (relative to where the ears point at), whereas there's another line on the upper half of the ear moving horizontally from the first vertical one. Both ears show these lines.

The texture of the hair is also different in each "portion" marked by the lines: we can observe one type of hair texture to the left of the middle line and two others on the right, each divided by the horizontal line. This makes it look like this side of the ear is made of three different parts with distinct textures separated by the said lines.

Contrary to what I explained in my previous post, I have discovered that the ears in most if not all haircuts show the lines, although not all of them have different hair textures in the ears. Additionally, only a handful of haircuts, marked with a red diamond in the screenshot, have the most stark and obvious lines alongside the differing textures.

Other haircuts hide the problem better, such as the ones shown in the following images, still from 6.58:

As we can see, it's become quite harder to see those lines previously mentioned. The hair textures of the ears are also consistent, contrary to the first picture shown.

Even so, we can still see the lines in these haircuts if we look from specific angles. The following picture from 6.58 exemplifies this. I have marked the lines with red arrows:

Since the hair texture of the ears is consistent, the lines are quite well-hidden in most cases.

Now, let us check the following picture from the original Dawntrail benchmark:

As we can see, the ear lines are still present on this specific hairstyle. I have marked their locations with red arrows (you can ignore the red circle as it's unrelated to this post).

While the hair textures have been enhanced due to the graphical update, once again there's three different textures in that section of the ear, separated by the lines.

I'd like to have a look at this picture of the same haircut taken from the 1.1 benchmark version:

We can observe that the ears of this haircut have changed: the lines are no longer obvious and the hair texture is different.

However, other haircuts present obvious lines in the 1.1 benchmark despite not doing so in 6.58, such as the following ones (the red arrows point at the problem):

Finally, other haircuts have the lines but they are less obvious unless looking from certain angles, such as the one in which the ears changed between the first and the 1.1 version of the benchmark.

I have provided two examples below from the 1.1 benchmark:

Notice how the lines in the first picture with the side view can still be seen although they are better hidden than in the previous two exhibits.

To conclude, in order to fix this problem, I would like to request the developer team to please go through the ears of all the haircuts for male miqo'te and try to tweak them so that these lines disappear completely or at least become well-hidden for all the different hairstyles. Additionally, the hair textures of ears should also be made consistent for each individual ear type.
