The Armory System and New Jobs/Weps

I am sure SE has plenty planned for this topic but I thought I would gil-toss out some of my suggestions and thoughts as well.

Due to the Armory System causing each class/job to have a diff weapon type we have the potential to come up with some pretty neat ideas based off of previous Final Fantasy titles.
    (The acception is CNJ/THM)

    Currently:
    Warrior - Great Axe
    Monk - Hand to hand
    Dragoon - Polearm
    Bard - Bow
    Paladin - Broadsword
Black Mage - One handed Black Mage Staff or Two handed Black Mage Staff
White Mage - One handed White Mage Staff or Two handed White Mage Staff

    Future Ideas:
Blue Mage - Fork/Spoon (in memory of Quina)
    Summoner - Whip
    Dark Knight - Great Sword
    Ninja - Katana
    Samurai - Great Katana
    Red Mage - Rapier
Thief - Dagger (pending they take it away from Paladin)
    Beastmaster - One handed Axe
    Scholar - Book
    Muskateer - Gun
    Gambler - Dice/darts
    Dancer - Ribbon
    Time Mage - Orb/Crystal Ball
    Machanist/Engineer - Hammer
Geomancer - One handed Geomancer Staff or Two handed Geomancer Staff

Summoners could end up with staffs in the same way WHM & BLM do. A THF could use daggers without taking it from PLD. Weapons dont really matter as there all categorized by job and not weapon type.

My real concern with the armory system is if multiple jobs start to stem from one class then they're all going to be essentially identical.

A common one here is people saying Gladiator could become Dark Knight to give it a dd option.

Sounds good but then under the armory system that Dark Knight would have Sentinal, Rampart, Aegis Boon, Outmanouver, Flash, Enhanced flash, Enhanced block rate, Swift aegis boon and Shield Bash. suddenly DRK sounds like a very defensive job and not a dd. with that it's going to be very similar to Gladiator and Paladin. there doesn't seem to be very much room to make the jobs unique with the armory system.

Another example would be Archer / Bard. I haven't played these since they killed its damage. Ranged class with paper armor and expensive should be a powerfull dd. I know people whined ranger was so op in xi but it was also so damn expensive to play that it should have been powerfull. If they were to put ranger in xiv as a true dd archer it would have the same abilities as arc and bard and most of the same traits again.

ARC = barrage, chameleon, wide volley, quelling strike, hawks eye, etc
BRD = barrage, chameleon, wide volley, quelling strike, hawks eye, etc
RNG = barrage, chameleon, wide volley, quelling strike, hawks eye, etc
They're all going to be very much the same to play.

They're all going to be much the same to play with the armory system. as jobs are based on classes and follow the traits as such. really restricts diversity.

Partly why i'd like to see the armory system scrapped. then with a drk you could start fresh so to speak give it's own frame with its own abilities and traits and really make the jobs unique. where as building a drk around a gla just seems far to restrictive if you want to make it a dd option.

I want diversity in the long term. and jobs to be truly uniqe. i wanna jump on a paladin and laugh in the face of my enemies as i take there hits. i wanna be a dark that can pwn the hell out of my enemies without it feeling like a paladin in disguise sort of thing. something that feels truly unique

edit. op:- wrong forum to. didnt realise when i clicked new posts

That is true, SE could be unimaginative and just give all the mages staffs/wands, or they could bring more Variety into the game through weapons.
I suggest to SE to take ideas from previous Final Fantasy titles. That is the reason why a lot of us are here today, so it would be smart to cater to them. (Im refering to FFIX and prior.)

Whips is im memory of Rydia from FF4.
Spoon is in memory of Quina from FF9.
Dice/darts is in memory of Setzer FF6.
Hammer is in memory of Cid from FF4.

I would like to see lots of diff weapon types.

The whole idea of the Armory system was so if you wanted to be a certain job all you had to do was change your weapon, I would think the idea was to have a diff weapon type for each diff class.

Having multiple jobs branch from one class is what I thought they were going to do from the start. Because it is the class that determines the weapon, that just means that there will be a lot less divercity and uniqueness.

Yes, that would mean a lot of classes will play a like and all that will be differant is the abilitys and animation and how the char is geared. Well, isnt that all what a new job needs to be? sure.

All DPS classes are just DPS classes with a differant weapon and stat that caters to them. Either way they are all doing the same thing ;p

This thread was mainly to suggest diff weapon types to give this game more Variety.
I came from DAoC where they had 21 differant races and 47 differant jobs to play. Yes they had that many!
Go check it out and read the differance between them all, they are ALL unique and play slightly differant that the next one. The developer of that deffinately was going for variety.

I would love to see those 4 I mentioned above to be implemented and bring a blast from the past with all its nostalgia glory.

Sure Summoner can branch from Conjurer and Blue mage from Thaumaturge and be given an array of staffs/rods, all I want to say about that is, if all mages are staff users, I am going to be very sad.

(ps: I thought this was a Feedback/Suggestion forum thats why I put this thread here.)
