There were a very very rare few times where Blizz has done that. Most infamously during the Lizard Squad DDoS debacle. However, they have never actually given any credit for actual maintenance scheduled or Emergency.Pretty much every other subscription based MMO I've played has at some point in the past credited actively subscribed members for lost playtime when an extended service outage occurs. I recall it not being uncommon for Blizzard when it came to WoW, even when the outages were expected due to extended maintenance periods or patches that took a while.
So while SE is technically within their right to do nothing, in my opinion I find it distasteful from a customer service perspective for them to just pocket the difference. Especially when they're expecting us to fork over $40 for Dawntrail at the same time.
I'm not by any means mad about it, I just think it's poor form for a service provider.
Servers crashing wasn't uncommon, but they were rarely down for long periods. I remember most of the time they'd be back up within 15 minutes. Sure the weekly maintenance wasn't great either, but it was rare that things were unplayable for a full 24 hours, let alone 48 hours, but it was those rare cases where they did actually take that long that active subs were credited.
You sure about that? I distinctly remember a few times where they did credit people. It might have only been for certain servers that were particularly finicky, I played on one of the more populated ones.
Either way, as I mentioned every other MMO I've played that had extended downtimes has credited active subscribers as compensation.
It might be a troll post but he's right.
Even free to play games like Star Rail give compensation.
We are getting a free fantasia, that’s worth 10$.
Isn't that precisely because they depend on your goodwill and money to blow on their gacha shop? The happier you are, the more likely you are to spend even more money.
In FFXIV, you’ve already paid for admission. They don’t really expect you or need you to pay more.
The mindset really needs to be this: you are paying for a monthly pass, like you would for Disneyland. If a particular day is closed for maintenance, you are not compensated. Nor are you compensated if a particular ride is closed for the day. Your ticket only allows you access to the park when it is open, which you agree to when you buy the ticket.
@OP
If you actually took time to read the EULA, you would see in part 5, that you specifically agreed to:
The end. You agreed to this. I even bolded the important bit for you.
5. INTERRUPTION TO THE SERVICE
From time to time, in order to provide our customers with the optimal gaming experience, it is necessary for Square Enix to conduct routine maintenance on the computers and/or servers that support the Game. During these times, access to the Game or support services may be interrupted. Access may also be temporarily suspended in whole or in part, without notice, due to emergency repairs, fire, flood, explosion, war, strike, embargo, governmental action or failure to act, the act of any civil or military authority, act of God, or by any other causes beyond Square Enix's control, or any other reasons for which Square Enix, in its sole discretion, deems that temporary suspension is necessary. You acknowledge that disruptions of service may occur and waive any causes of action against Square Enix in any way arising from or related to any such disruptions of service.
Nobody forced you to agree to this, nor does anyone force you to play this particular game. You can protest sure, but complaining about it is moot.

The only free game time compensation I specifically remember getting from Blizzard was for the Wrath of the Lich King launch (it was extremely buggy with servers going up and down about every 4-6 hours for most of the first week). They gave us either 2 or 3 days (can't remember which). I vaguely remember getting another free day added, but I think that was more promotional than for downtime. If they offered any free game time as compensation after Legion, I have no clue since I stopped playing at the end of Legion. You sure about that? I distinctly remember a few times where they did credit people. It might have only been for certain servers that were particularly finicky, I played on one of the more populated ones.
Either way, as I mentioned every other MMO I've played that had extended downtimes has credited active subscribers as compensation.
Game companies do compensate for unscheduled extended downtime that was their fault, yes. Endwalker launch is a prime example of where SE has also done it.
For a scheduled maintenance? Doesn't happen unless something goes wrong and the maintenance lasts far longer than originally planned.
It doesn't really matter now tbh 3 hours left basicly
