This is precisely the point I was making. You don't keep people interested in a game by making them repeat the same tired, flawed mechanics/events over and over until they finally get lucky - you have to come up with content that is genuinely challenging and engaging. Nyzul Isle & Assault were very good examples of this, Salvage to a lesser degree (mainly because of the horrid drop rates).

And again, I cite Empyrean Weapons - up until the 95 update (which is when I threw in the towel because Tanaka was back in charge and decided to bring back his brand of bs in with the 1000+ plates from Voidwatch) Empyrean Weapons were about as close to an ideal challenge as you could get.

A little grindy, but nothing strenuous and most people could do it together in the early stages. In the later stages you had to make sacrifices, but this was offset somewhat by people needing zone boss clears, AF3+2 and other misc. items (I will forever hate Carabosse with the fiery passion of 1000 suns however. I earned that Masamune damn it!)

Relic should be available to absolutely everyone. (assuming they put the effort in)

the deciding factor is time and investment. do you want to put in the huge time and huge investment into it if so you'll get it. if not you wont. effort should be the only deciding factor not luck gils or any other crap.

some one can go 1/1 on a double melded weapon someone else can go 0/14 currently is the worst luck i know of on a friends mailbreaker. holding up there whole static cos of it. it's not a fair system by any means. luck of the drops in hamlets as well for the 9 seals to drop again an unfair system.

that being said and assuming i've read the correct information the latter half of the quest seems pretty bang on. obtain an item by doing a perfect 1020 caravan. beat garuda beat ifrit extreme. that seems all skill related and i only wish thats how the whole thing was.

<--it's not for the guy in this pic. luck =/= skill or fun. if I got a new car with the relic, I'd still think twice about doing it.

but hey, bash your heads in. it's a kickass weapon, and worth the effort if you have absolutely no reason to do anything else but play this game

Was going to say something but Hyrist pretty much wrapped it up in a nutshell.

True! So I guess in turn it makes others rich..sort of. >_<

I understand and see your point, but when you see someone with a relic..instead of thinking "Wow they must have some mad skills" instead think "Wow..they got...lucky.."

    Really impressive.

Yes...this makes me very sad, that is why I spent all my time crafting until 2.0...when maybe they will release stuff that requires me to rub two brain cells together and use real skills.

    That's not luck. That's perseverance.

I would be very concerned about the value of these relics if I did not see complaints on these boards about the difficulty achieving them. They're supposed to be something hard and special. Sure, there's luck elements involved, but you will always overcome luck elements in this game with enough perseverance. You MAY get lucky and get by quickly, but typically that will not be the case.

And this isn't even touching Ifrit Extreme.

Make no mistake, anyone who has a fully realized Relic has EARNED it.
I see your point about the person struggling to get there..but still, it is really not that hard to farm it...just a matter of having free time and not being bored to death while farming. It does not take much raw skill that could be displayed in say...taking down a series of really difficult bosses.

I am not one to be impressed by saying OH WOW you spent all that time farming!! True, that is dedication...but it does not impress me (my opinion, that I am entitled to as you yours) it takes little to no skill to go out there and farm...

Ifrit extreme is pretty cool, I'll give it that much.

I guess you have to know how to...join a SB party? Or..know how to umm farm that particular item which the weapon is crafted from? It just takes time...anyone can press the keys to do it. It just comes down to how much time people have to spare and how willing they are to stick with it.

I MUCH rather obtain my special weapon through a series of tough NM fights, remember ZNM in FFXI? Getting stuff from that was actually impressive...because not only did you need to farm (the pictures) you had to defeat really tough bosses in very tough areas (lots of aggro, add, etc) when I got my Enkidu boots when they first came out for my DNC on my first try, I got up from my PC and did a dance..lmao. I have never done that in FFXIV...I've made plenty of triple melds and was like..ok cool. So my character is lucky..or something. Awesome.

Anyway Hyrist..I see and respect your opinion. Thanks for sharing
