OP: the author is correct by all means i don't think the author is trying to say the relic should be free or not challenging but, the rng has to go. Take this step out and replace it easy with 50 mil donation or more or something that we could work towards instead of being no closer to success every time a weapon blows up. I have a couple weapons double melded already but, that doesn't mean that i think this part of the quest is ridiculous. Why should 1 relic be worth more then another. For Example: Either way you do it wither you farm all the mats and materia and make them or you buy them off the wards . Let's say one dude farms and gets lucky on his double meld and it only took him 1 try. That is awesome for him right but, let's say another guy some the same thing but, doesn't get it on his first try. His relic was more expensive or time consuming then the other guy. That is the problem with it. It needs to be on a fair level for everyone not just a rng fest of luck..... So cut this guy some break and think about it. Do you really want to pay more or spend more time farming on something that is not equal to the next guy. All we're asking for is progression for each thing we do.

I think in any MMO that is going to have lasting gameplay you need to have RNG and luck to make certain items extremely valuable.
Some people are coming from WoW saying everything in FF14 should also be easy to acquire but WoW simplicity has not been successful in any game besides WoW.
When other games copy the WoW method of crafting and acquiring end game gear, their playerbase plows through the content, finshes much of it and gets bored with the game.
Then they go on to a different game to ruin with their "standard tastes", untill WoW comes out with their next expansion for WoW players to plow through.
whats funny is, using wow as an example, it has some pretty massive rng tooI think in any MMO that is going to have lasting gameplay you need to have RNG and luck to make certain items extremely valuable.

but its disguised moreso
just think of this, boss X has 10 drops
only 2 of those drops show up per fight(20% chance), and it could be ANY 2, none is rarer then any other usualy
on top of that, usualy 7-8 of his drops are complete trash, might as well compare those drops to dark matter cuz they are just as useful
and then, instead f 4-8 people competing, you get 10-25 who want each piece of gear
and yet having a 10-20% drop rate for a piece here is considered worse?

I never had problems gearing up myself or the 30ish other people in my guild when i played wow.whats funny is, using wow as an example, it has some pretty massive rng too

In this game you could literally go a full year of running av/cc every single day for 4-6 hours a day and still not even have 15 people fully geared in that amount of time.
Yes wow had rng so does every single game, but wow handled it in a much much better way then FFXIV has so far.
I still personally don't like wow's 1 week reset timer since i felt it caused lots of downtime between actually doing content, but the current system in FFXIV with 15 minute reset timers just forces drop rates to be low and forces people to have to run the same content possibly 200-300 times before they see certain items drop for the 1st time.
For example i think i have personally done 400-500 AV runs (i lost count a long long time ago) and i have only ever seen 3 corselets and 1 heavy darklight body drop, that means if i were to fully gear out a 25man LS with those items i would potentially need to do 2500+ AV runs.
Wow's drop rate cant even be compared to that.

I will concede that to cover the lack of content and side-grades available, they have made it exceptionally hard to get some gear in FF14. But its very much SE's nature nowadays looking at FF11 and FF14, to take into consideration tastes of "western MMO players" and go overboard.I never had problems gearing up myself or the 30ish other people in my guild when i played wow.

Well i am fine with gear being rare or hard to get, infact i much prefer gear be hard to get since it was way too easy to get in wow in my opinion.I will concede that to cover the lack of content and side-grades available, they have made it exceptionally hard to get some gear in FF14. But they went over the top in FFXIV and in the worst possible way.
I wouldn't care too much if it took me a year to get fully geared in this game if it didn't require me to run the same boring instance 1000+ times to get that gear.
Maybe if the content was unique every single time it wouldn't be a problem to run the same instance 1000+ times but AV pretty much never changes, i have done it so many times im sure i could do most of the instance with my eyes closed by now.
Its just plain not fun doing the same thing hundreds of times.

Having gear require speed run and having no ability to make progress each time you go in is a major fail. They've said they are addressing the issue in 2.0, so we will see. I won't personally be playing a game that utilizes the systems XIV currently does.
