    REgister DT on July 2nd?

    Ok hear me out...

You KNOW I've already purchased DT...you gave me the earrings and I will be playing it come Fridayish.

Why are you going to send me out a key to register 4 days later? You know I have it already.

I worry with SE's habit of awesome website stability that even with the staggered drip of codes your going to have a silly additional task that seems to serve no purpose - just issue the remaining items on the 2nd...you already know I registered my DT pre-order.

Thats to say nothing of scammers who could shotgun a couple thousand emails to a FAKE login portal and once you login they simply give you a "sorry our servers are timing out" or such....and now they can steal your account.

Seriously I do not get the logic here as it opens up a lot of room for issues.

It should be better but it's just how it is.

It may be related to legal reasons. Back in the days of Playstation 1 consoles, we would get CDs in shops and PC CDs. These would have limited numbers of them manufactured and they would go through region-specific procedures (like PAL, NTSC etc). Then they would go through ratings systems for each country to say what audience they are suitable for and have identifiable codes/batches.

So you see, SE is still caught up in that old system to some extent and I think they want to move away from it as much as they can. At least I hope they want to. But I don't know to what extent they can do so since I'm not a lawyer.

Game can be purchased from places other than SEs store, and they may have refund policies that allow for return up until release day.

Early access is also split because of the item codes. Early access items are in the came, collectors edition items are not.

It's why you also can't use the mtn dew zu codes yet.

It's awkward, but they don't know you didn't refund your pre-order after you entered the pre-order code. It's to prevent people from getting Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail for free.

I'd follow that if it did not differ for playstation users which is why I don't see it being a factor with a SE store purchase...nor the fact that I will already be playing the game prior to the 2nd.

Honestly its not even about the delay on activation; its the customer having to watch their email and opening themselves up to potential phishing that seems largely a dangerous set up that seems like a bad idea.

PS does essentially use the same system, it is just that it is all automatic, since you have to link your PSN to your SE account and you cannot refund it.

PC is different, you don't link your account anywhere. They also don't link it to your SE store account (which could be different) as you might want to purchase multiple copies for different people.

As for email phishing attempts, just take measures to not get caught? Assuming you bought it from SE, the code is either in the email (which you can just copy into mogstation using your own link) or you can go to the SE store and look at it there. For other retail vendors, they will put the code into the email and you, again, just go to the mogstation via your own trusted link and do it that way.

I have never seen phishing emails sent out at expansion time. The phishing done in this game is catered towards people who are logged in, and are sent bogus forum links about a "drama" thats happening, or for raffles or "i quit, first response gets all my money" posts.

Also, they give you a week to register your code.

I get it, its slightly clunky, but like, it really just seem like searching for something to be upset about.

Agree it could (and should) be better.

But this is the same way they've been doing things for how many expansions now? So far there have been no issues beyond players not understanding what they need to do. I doubt it will be different this time.

My store account is my FF account. I use my FF account id, password and OTP to log in at the store. The link is there for player that choose to use it over a separate store account. SE is making poor use of it.

Adding in options for "apply key to this FF account" "apply key to that FF account" (for those with multiple accounts) or "Gift this key" is not a problem. Or at least wouldn't have been if not for all the scamming losses they were taking in 2021 and 2022, forcing them to remove most gifting options.

There have been a few phishing emails but the spelling and grammar errors were so atrocious that they were easy to detect.

The main reason for phishing in-game instead of by email is that they'd have to get a list of player email addresses somehow. Appeal of the game is too niche to make it worth the effort compared to things like the Amazon phishing scams. Doing it in-game makes certain they're getting active accounts.
