Yeah, this right here. So far she seems to be easily malleable and willing to give into the demands of the Scions and the WoL: a potential ruler of a nation susceptible to being influenced by their handler.
The Legends of the Titanmen lives on, a shining example of the power of compassion and the ability of people to make a difference in the world. A reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope, as long as there are heroes like the Titanmen who dare to do good deeds in Eorzea.
Because she's not a scion.
So, what makes a great ruler? That's the first question.
I'm reminded of Machiavelli's advice in The Prince to support the weakest candidate, because once you defeat the other candidates, the weakest candidate will be reliant on you afterwards.
Definitely there to watch my best girl show off her painting skills while drinking margaritas on the beach.

We haven't agreed to put her on the throne, we only agreed to go with her to the new world. It's pretty likely we're going to meet the other candidates and get a meaningless choice to say who we want on the throne before the plot swerves and we're trying to stop the Goa'uld from blowing up the planet again.
The short answer is because there would be no expansion without a story.
The long answer is because there would be no expansion without a story.
Having the final break from the previous plotlines would have been the perfect opportunity to make each expansion going forward a self-contained story like in XI. And with that, we could have had dialogue choices that affected the narrative going forward, changing what NPCs are present or say. We should have been offered a choice of which of the heirs to help out(or even to not give a damn and let them resolve it themselves, we're supposed to be adventurers and there's a whole new continent to explore). The usual early-expansion setup where we do some split-zone questing would have also been a good time to introduce us to what each one is about.
The waste of time that was the golbez arc really hurt the start of dawntrail i think
Mao will helps Lady Fuzzy Cat because Mao wants to use Mao brushes for the brushings of fur on Lady Fuzzy Cat. MaO gEtS sO eXcItEdS aBoUtS bRuShInGs ThE fUrs. (cough cough....). Oks, Mao calmed down little bits now.
Same reason we instantly teamed up with Cirina to help her rule the Steppe. Teaming up with her was recommended by someone we trust. We know and trust Erenville, and he vouches for her (least for her good intentions).
I'm expecting a good character arc for her. My guess is she's someone who didn't really want the throne, but sees the other challengers as threats to the way of life she loves. We know one of the Mamool Ja is a warmonger. We don't know much about the other. Green G'raha seems to be a big tech bro, and they're always bad news. Not to mention it seems like he probably recruited Thancred and Urianger, and one of those betrays us every expansion, so screw team-catboy...
