Reaper has a cast on communio so it's not wholly unique. Pedantry aside though, the cast on iaijutsu rules and I would be big mad if they cut it.Before Yoshida does an asspull again about "People complaining were more than ones who weren't" with regards to this, casting is the last thing that gives uniqueness to SAM and lends to its job fantasy. Any bottom of the barrel creature that cannot handle that can go play literally any other class, or "take a break", or "play something else".
I like the cast timer on the skills, leave it in imo. Same for on reaper.
get outta here? you said it yourself, this is theater, this is not real life...thats the headcanon most go with i am sure but its 100% not that in japan they practice sword techniques and swings some of which is visibly shown in the way samurai executes certain skills or abilities but also they believe in their study of the blade that its an extension of the self and how you treat it and hone it will decided how great of swordsman you become and so on and so fourth but thats in "practice" and performed on "Stage" if you were to go watch actual kendo or japanese sword competitions you'd see that literally none of their practice techniques are held in place for any longer than a split second or less cause whats he gunna do? let his oponent smack the ever living daily light out of him while he's trying to act all cool like on tv??? absolutely not lmao that would be extremely embarrassing to watch and would shame his school and his mentor both
And the same can be said for when they had times of war in ancient japan civilization you really think a samurai who also mind you was covered in armor from head to toe which weighed tons is gunna let himself get wailed on an possibly behead or worse? just to active some kind of imaginary special ki finisher? lmao get outta here
SAM is a reflection of Samurai from media from pop culture from film, legend, story... It is in no way a direct reflection of anything real, you might not realize that katanas can't shoot blades of energy off at their enemies at range, just as an example... the one wielding the katana also doesn't have a 6th sense from a deity that grants the ability to see the future also..
no one cares what is practiced in kendo just the same as no one is explaining that you cant just believe fireballs in to existence black mage or no.
Take your straw man and eat it.
if you want to, just say you want the easy class to be easier because you cant handle a minor cast bar, stop lying to the rest of us.
Hey good news!
In Dawntrail there's this new Job coming out called Viper, this Job has no casting and uses swords!
Guess what I like how Ninja looks but I think its one of the most annoying Jobs in the game to play. But instead of begging for it to be changed I let people who love the Job for how it plays to enjoy it, I am not the only person in the world.

if they are going to insist we keep casting then i demand they add a counter/deflect/parry effect as compensation for us having to stand perfectly still in one spot because thats exactly what a SAMURAI would do if being charged at or being attacked is to deflect/parry then counter strike when an opening is visible.
the other Melee have the unfair advantage of being able to move freely and unbinded by a cast bar when a large AoE is about to hit at close range and they loose nothing from dashing out of the way compared to the samurai which looses its cast and then has to reset.

You did. Third eye used to activate a parry now they just give you the resources for your ogcd attack if you use third eye correctly.if they are going to insist we keep casting then i demand they add a counter/deflect/parry effect as compensation for us having to stand perfectly still in one spot because thats exactly what a SAMURAI would do if being charged at or being attacked is to deflect/parry then counter strike when an opening is visible.
There's nothing lamer than a nerd who thinks they can look cool by putting down other nerds over some most arbitrary distinction only they can see. "Uhm yeah but actually at least I'm not into some weeb shit" *goes back to playing a raging fantasy berserker with comically sized axes* "Oh yeah this is the cool stuff"
You'd be 1000% cooler if you just owned the fact you like stupid fantasy bullshit. Every job is stupid fantasy bullshit, and it's great.

Also, the casts being a problem is a general issue of EW's encounter design. When you make fights that make casters hate the fights, eventually you nab caster-adjacent classes. The problem is encounter design, not SAM cast bars. Things like SAM feeling like crap in Superchain 1 of P12S is a consequence of encounter design. SAM was fine in the prior 2 expansions, even with slower casts. Hell, it wasn't until EW that other casters like BLM or RDM started to really suffer as well. The problem is encounter design. Fix the encounters, the problem goes away.
You're making an appeal to realism in a game called Final Fantasy.OooOO did i touch a nerve?you seem awfully upset that i described a real samurai to you with facts that they are anything but slow and not cringe weeb material.
and it seems you glossed over my other response to what samurai mains really want it to be like i wonder why?
None of it is supposed to be rooted in realism. We have wizards and knights casting elemental spells and channelling their soul to defeat their enemies.
We have ninja's summoning big frogs and going invisible. We have cat girls in bikini's swinging around gigantic weapons that are twice as big as their character model, tanking a gigantic robot that shoots laserbeams.
