So, for the past year or so I had been having issues on my laptop playing XIV, with Dawntrail Around the corner and all the new content about to come out, the last thing I wanted was to have the game become unresponsive mid-content.
So, What I discovered in my search, (I use a Wired DS5 Controller / PS5 Controller) is that most of my problems appeared to be from having USB Select Suspend enabled. If the system managed a USB device (Like a wireless mouse or a system USB Driver) in the background,
1-Controller input would disable for three seconds.
2-Game Audio would cut out for three seconds.
3-Game performance would decline (Creating stuttering) Due to the Devices being changed in the background (Even moving my mouse in-game after a few minutes of inactivity)
4-I would need to re-calibrate the controller every disconnect.
5-If multiple Input devices were present, it would divert to the incorrect USB device (eg my steering wheel)
This occurred frequently (every 5-15 minutes) for over a year.
What solved the issues One(1) Two(2) and Three(3) (INPUT / AUDIO CUTOUT)
Disabling USB Select Suspend.
Instructions for Windows 11.
Navigate to System and Security > Power Options > Change plan settings. Click the Change advanced power settings option. Double-click on the USB settings option and then expand USB selective suspend setting. Choose Disabled for both the On battery and Plugged in options.
This solved issues one through three.
As for how I was able to solve Issue Four(4) and Five(5) (Device Specific Issues)
Windows 11 = Device Manager (MICROSOFT DEVICE ASSOCIATION ROOT ENUMERATOR) = DISABLED
There is some kind of incompatibility with this driver (That the community actually discovered about eight years ago), that said, the Solution to One(1) Two(2) and Three(3) may make disabling the driver obsolete if they devices stop disconnecting every few minutes. Honestly for attempting more difficult content? Not going to take the chance to not disable it. Playing over cellular already puts me in a delicious difficulty curve.
This entire issue wasn't a straightforward thing to find and troubleshoot so I wanted to make sure there was an updated post in the event someone gets a laptop for Dawntrail and is affected by this. I feel kind of silly that the issue was so easily fixable, I hope this helps someone. \o/
UPDATE - The Issue was still happening, I did however discover that my Wireless Logitech G502 mouse was In fact entering a standby mode that was causing this issue as well. I have yet to Iron out all the issues, but hopefully I am close. I swapped to my Wired G502 and the issue has been resolved, no other USB devices seem to be causing these disconnects. YAY \o/
Still poking through windows settings to make sure it all works in perfect order.
