It's a shame. I would have loved blitzball in the game.

7,000 people on earth and I will protect them all.
I wouldnt. Never finished X but I did play enough to encounter blitzball and it was hate at first sight. So please SE dobt waste resources on yet another activity that will die soon. Even as a combat class i doubt it would be any good. Meaning I doubt they can do it justice and make it a fun believable class to play.
Then again they did give us pictomancer *facepalm*
I'd like Queen's Blood, actually. Put it on a rotation with Triple Triad tournaments. And G-Bike!
Before that, though, or any new games, I'd like some expansions of what's already there. Some more Air Force One stages, maybe another Cliffhanger, give us The Time of Our Life back.
We got a new Leap of Faith recently, so I'd imagine the Air Force One stage would be the most likely.
Blitzballer will be a class. No way it won't be after GNB, VPR, and PCT. You all will be fine, this is a lot of drama over nothing.
Yeah but I would want a mini-game based around it. Maybe recruit random NPCs to it. How could would it be to see Martyn do the Jecht shot?

Yeah, I'd much rather have my customized character participate than to just manage a team of npcs. That's FFX-2's Blitzball in a nutshell and was a pale knock-off from the more engaged system from FFX. FFX-2 Blitzball has been criticized at inception from what I recall. I'm sorry but I really do not want resources be put into that.
If ever, it should actually be an engaging activity, but therein lies the problem - without the right structure + replayability (i.e. reason to keep people playing) it will be dead on arrival if not a few weeks after - which is exactly why Yoshida does not want to develop it. The risk for this is way too significant, especially if you want a more fleshed out version of Blitzball.
that was by far one of the best pvp game modes i've played (until their heavy handed balance failure killed it)
it was so simple and fun and you got well rewarded playing an arena as a team, no solo prodigy could stand up to the most mediocre team that understood passing.
would rush back if they reintroduced it
Which is precisely why they don't want to make that same mistake again. Lords of Verminion likely took a decent amount of resources all to be met with widespread scorn and to have largely been ignored by the playerbase. While a good part of that failure is on the dev team for implementing a version of "minion battles" pretty much no one asked for, it's understandable they're much more hesitant to try something like that again. Heck, even Island Sanctuary didn't turn out anywhere hear what they likely expected.
Yoshida isn't wrong to have that concern. As he explained, if they made a bunch of sweeping changes to make Blitzball work in a multi-player formula then it would essentially be Blitzball in name only. If it's just a football manger, well, they're not going to implement better than games dedicated to that genre. It'd be another Island Sanctuary but worse since it's completely out of focus. Put simply, they just don't have the time to gamble on a side activity of this scale because if it bombs, that's a massive hole in the content release cycle.
