No Blitzball :(

I feel like there is already some bare-bones form of this in the game, aka squadrons. While I know you want something more akin to fantasy football, hear me out.

The squadron system does ""technically"" have stats mechanics and the ability to choose which style of tactics they use in battle (from offensive to healing, etc). There are also training regimens for it to increase and decrease general stats before sending them out on missions. There is also the option of using them for levelling your character by running dungeons with them. (You can also choose who you want minus Viera and Hroth...which is a result of neglected content. But you can also customize their appearances in later tier unlocks.)

Squadrons have been sorrowfully ignored and a revamp to include setting them up against other player's squadrons could be an interesting concept to elaborate on and, maybe, give the ignored content a new breath of life. (It'd feel in a similar vein to the battle in the HW patch between the GCs or PVP. Either way, it feels like there is something there that could be pulled for creating a version of "fantasy football" / Blitzball lol.)

I haven't tried the squadrons yet, but yeah. Pitting your squadrons against other squadrons in tournament style with tactics, skills etc.

Maby it doesn't need to be underwater in a watersphere, it could as well be with a football or basketball.

If the teams go against each other, each player against each other. They have stamina that drains with each bout, agility determines turn, strength determines stamina lost and all that stuff, and there's a small chance you get the ball (i.e. not physically chasing it and grabbing it, but just chance) that the player will attempt to shoot at the goal (higher chance to hit goal if opponent is already down).
First to hit the goal wins.

Just uh...keep your expectations low for squadrons. They aren't incredibly robust with mechanics.

While I can't see them adding in anything adjacent to football/basketball, maybe combat scenarios or tactics might be more in-line. While its not really my cup of tea in general, it is fun to think about all the possibilities :0

Thank the Twelve, because he's right. Sure, it might be all the rage for 2 weeks, but then no one will play it once the novelty of it runs out. Just like every big side-game they put in the game. I remember how badly people wanted LoV when they put it out as an April Fools gag. How's that going? You can place in the tournament by just participating now because not enough people play to fill up all the winning slots.

I'd rather they concentrate on quick mini-games that take 1-3 minutes to complete. Maybe a new card game? Or a dice game of some sort?

If they DID do another big event, they should run it like they're running the Fall Guys crossover. Have "seasons" that are up for 6 or so weeks, then it goes away for awhile. Offer unique prizes on top of normal MGP. The only difference is I'd add a couple of new prizes each "season" to keep interest up. One that's generally quick to get, and one that takes a bit of playing to get.

Not Blitzball, though. Original Blitzball was boring AF. Maybe there's people that actually truly enjoy it, but you're going to have an extremely hard time convincing me that it's not just nostalgia fooling them.

To be fair, that kind of game is super niche and probably stresses out most rpg fans lol. Now if it was something like a tactical RPG akin to FFT/Tristrat...

But sad that Blitzball won't be a thing - this would have been the perfect opportunity to implement a nice fun lighthearted minigame into the mix. It needs to be something that many people can easily get into without having to rely on multiple modes to keep it fresh

There is blitzball in game. It's on crystal and a rp version of it. Quite good too. Fanbase and everything.

When people ask for Blitzball they're typically thinking of the awesome intro cutscene to FFX and not the actual boring clunky slog of the minigame itself.

I was one of the insane fools who actively played and enjoyed Blitzball X. X-2 is a whole other bag... I even respected the content and didn't goal post cheese. lol But I know that the game mode would be wasted on XIV sadly.

Which is why it should be a job. Blitzballer/Auroch would be sick as hell. lol
