    Red Mage Job Identity

Anyone else hoping that red mage regains its job identity as a caster that uses black and white magic? I feel like over the last few expansions we’ve slowly moved from red mage to rose mage.

This expansion, all of our new spells and abilities are all “rose themed”. Post SB the only “new” black and white spells we’ve gotten have been verthunder and veraero II and III. That’s it. Everything else has been non elemental or utility.

This is like asking Machinist to tone down the Machinery in favor of more gunplay.
I think it's important for the job to evolve and create its own identity outside of just "casts both black and white magic". Sure, keep its basic spells black & white, but when it's really showing its full strength, it should be in its own unique, Red way.

The rose/thorns motif is often associated with Red Mages in other games like FFXI or the Bravely series. I don’t think it’s too out-of-field for the motif to also be associated with them in FFXIV. As the poster above says, it gives Red Mage its own identity as more than just an imitator of other jobs.

I actually think the rose theme gives Red Mage more of a distinct identity. Black and White Magic are already covered by other jobs and aren't unique.

I think it is fine, actually. I just wish they would upgrade Veraero II/Verthunder II and Verfire/Verquake.

And also just generally give the jobs more AoE mini-game than what we have. I get really bored pulling trash mobs with only three AoE skills.

Shadowbringers derailed FFXIV. Both the story and the job/combat design. It was not worth it.

I think it's fine. Sure they've added on more stuff that isn't strictly more 'verwhite/verblack' magick but the core of it is still there including holy and flare as parts of the core rotation. I like it building off of that and then making new moves for its own identity.

Red mage in FFXI is a good healer/ Nuker and support job in FFXI, it also can do some Frontline damage with its swords or daggers ( I think they can use clubs too)

they are also great enfeebling magic users, highest in the game, can put Dia 3, distract, blind, ect and give haste II to the party as well

I enjoy FFXI red mage more than xiv red mage, because you have all these spells, support, great damage

While the rose identity is good.
The balance of white magic and black magic should also be more involved in the job. I don't know if this is more spells or more effects/uses of a bar but it would be cool to see this further.
They can't just keep adding extra steps to the melee combo ender forever.... Right?

    This is exactly right.

I like the rose theme because it helps RDM be its own thing, aesthetically (glares at Seraphism) and it also symbolizes the perfect blend of white and black magic; a structure of life that can also harm.

I'll give healer a try up until level 100. If I do not like it, I'm off the role, entirely.
