    YoshiP latest internview on the 2 minute meta

    its a PC gamer article, so take it with a pinch of salt, but if he's addressing this maybe he's also going to tackle job homogenization?

    The Final Fantasy 14 team is taking aim at the game's same-y combat jobs and 2-minute-meta, but that'll come after Dawntrail tackles its encounter design

    "I've talked about it often … in general, we have directed development towards reducing player stress, and as a result we have made certain decisions," says Yoshi-P, referencing an increase in the size of raid boss 'target circles', which allowed melee classes to have a far easier time keeping up their DPS during Endwalker's raid tiers. "[They] eventually became too large … Likewise, when it comes to specific mechanics, we received feedback from some players that they didn't like [them], as a result we decided to no longer implement them."
    Yoshi-P goes on to say that these responses were
    "defensive"
    adding that he'd instead like the team to consider why a mechanic is disliked before removing it—and when it comes to the thinning of boss target circles, he notes that easing up on the players in such a fashion
    "makes it much more difficult to express the ability and the talent of the individual player … our goal obviously shouldn't be to stress players for the sake of it, but at the same time we must take into account the degree of satisfaction they feel when completing content."
    This, he says, is something the team tends to take on immediately during Dawntrail's post-release patches:
    "we absolutely don't want to wait until 8.0".

    I believe they're willing to make changes or revert some things; partway through EW we got a PLD skill back that had been gone for quite a while iirc. Based on some of the changes they're making, I think they are taking an evaluation of the popularity of the way pvp actions and skills are used at least. A whole rehaul with their production schedule past several years is probably going to have to wait, we knew that w/ covid.

    Yes, we'll have to wait for 7.2 to actually start seeing encounter changes if any, and 8.0 for job centric changes. Very disheartening and it's killing all the hype that I had remaining about the expansion whenever I read about it, especially about the part about not wanting to stress players by doing both changes at once.

    Yeah, if you read the media tour compilation, all the interviews he's done are basically saying he's heard absolutely everything people have been saying in this forum.

    People have called out samey mechanics and the giant target circle. He's fixing that now in 7.0

    People have called out job homogenization, lack of skill expression, the 2 minute burst window all making jobs too samey, he wants to fix that but he says he can't fix that at the same time as fixing the content or it would be too chaotic.

    Remember how they said wait for next patch and then next expansion for Parry changes and then they just removed Parry altogether? Good times.

    Last expansion they actually said they'd just do further simplification or homogenization. I read it all.

    Indeed, they typically do respond to our feedback but they take a whole expansion to do it. Like how bowmage, crossclass, parry and PLD not blocking magic took 2 whole years to fix suddenly. Heavensward into Stormblood was when I learned they fix things on an expansion basis and that's why they're so slow with it, although they've tried a bit ie. PLD rework mid expansion.
