Visual identity was lost long ago, if it ever were there, and visually jobs are only distinguished by their weapons. (Possibly with the exception of "artifact armor", but nearly nobody wears that anyway.)It's going to be a very unpopular opinion, but I think it's better to keep glams locked to jobs. The game already offers ways of getting around these aspects (as shown by the op); but visual identity is still important, and having a hopefully blougi-goulba of jobs distinguished only by their weapons isn't an idea I'm keen on.
No, there are no good reasons for restrictions on glamour.
