Questions about your reception to Dawntrail

Of the pre-launch periods I've seen since I started playing the game in StB, I feel like this one is the first with this many people either uneasy or straight up apathetic to the newest expansion. I haven't seen reactions as polarizing on the short time I've been using the forums, so I got curious.

Hopefully it'll be a good way for Squenix to gather data on both what is keeping the satisfied party here, and what is pushing the unsatisfied party away.

Will you play DT at launch, and are you looking forward to it? Why or why not?

Yes. Though I'm looking forward to more of the cosmetics that are coming along with the graphical update and the new ultimate(s) (should they be released of course). I can't say I'm super thrilled about the story, especially not with the Endwalker patch story. I'll hold my reservations until I actually get into playing through Dawntrail.

Did the media tour sway your decision, and do you think there's any way you'll change your mind before DT actually comes out?

Nah, not really. I was going to play it anyways. SE would have to do something pretty awful for me to want to full on quit. What that is, I have no idea.

I'm very disappointed with the lack of LGBT characters for Dawntrail.

1. Shadowbringers.

2. Will not play at launch. It seems that everything good in Dawntrail is cosmetic (graphics update, dye channels, new maps/glams, new jobs), but the game itself is far too formulaic, homogenized, and railroaded for me to be excited about anything. Literally everything in the game has been reduced to window dressing except boss encounters, and even those are ruined by gutted job fantasies, excessive role blurring/self-sustain, and a two minute meta. Six empty bowl maps. Five linear dungeons. Three new tribes that serve the same functions. And a five-act story that has been more spectacle than focused writing since Shadowbringers derailed everything.

3. The media tour did sway my decision. Prior to that I was generally disappointed and apprehensive. The media tour gave me the full picture, just how far gone good job design is, and nothing short of a public apology and a delay to totally rework the jobs ARR-style would turn my opinion around.

- Yep, have time off to enjoy Early Access and then official launch. I still have things I enjoy about the gameplay and content. I'm still interested in the story. So I'm going to play it. I don't fault anyone who isn't, so long as they don't insult me for not sharing their feelings.
- Not really. I was already onboard. The media tour is just giving me details on things I was curious about.

1) Mid/Late ARR where I started off as a White Mage

2) Maybe, probably not. I have not and will not pre-order, at the very least.

3) The media tour did sway my decision because it made it exceedingly clear how creatively bankrupt they are when it comes to job design. I used to main healer, then it was ruined, I used to main Summoner after that, and that was ruined in EW, and now there is nothing I *want* to play.

Started in 3.3.

Will play at launch, but I'm not going in with particularly strong expectations or hype after EW set a rather worrying precedent in virtually every respect.

Media tour only worsened my opinion of things when it's just shown that it seems to be more of the same and the job changes either barely did anything or actively made the jobs feel worse to play by dumbing them down further.


I don't know if I'll ever stop playing entirely, but I certainly won't be maintaining a sub all the time unless they give me a really good reason to with meaningful content/gameplay improvements.

Hell yeah, hell yeah, picto seems rad, i'm intrigued by the content paradigm shift, and I'm hyped for chat bubbles in development.
media tour didn't give me much more excitement since the LL had a decent enough overview of picto that I could glean what it's gameplay was. and no I don't expect to have my mind swayed much?

1) late ARR first time, dropped it soon after, came back for Shadowbringers.

2) Yep, well, I'll be playing the game, I'm taking some time off a couple of weeks after release to go through the MSQ, so the first week or so I'll probably still be doing some catch up stuff. I am looking forward to it, want to take this one slow and enjoy the world building/side quests/everything as intended, I've recently been going through old expansion content, and realized just how much I missed by focusing mainly on the MSQ.

3) I have no strong feelings one way or another about the media tour, I don't really pay attention to that stuff much, and don't follow anything FFXIV related on social media, other than the little bit I see here.
