    We're not talking about suddenly turning the game into Dark Souls, because there already are semi-meaningful healing/mit checks in some normal content. I doubt that simply making those more frequent is going to alienate people if they can be solved by simply suggesting to a lacking healer that they hit *insert cooldown* during *insert mechanic*
    If anything, if the healer role regained braincells and could no longer face role through content it would change things for the better. That is, assuming it is well done. What I am about is based on the best case scenario.
    Healers will become more popular but still remain smaller than dps in population. Old healers would return, new players would play it, and more content creators might actually pick up healers if they get interesting again because that would make decent topics for content. New players pick up complicated dps jobs all the time. If anything, new players will continue to try healers even if they regain much of their old kits (with tweaking for modern game content) and mechanics. It would put a new lease on life for older content, especially if the devs finally begin tweaking kits at lower levels to be engaging and balanced to not melt everything out of sheer potency.
    The tole would slowly regain respect. The developers, if they did this and did it correctly would regain some respect from players (especially if the maintain that level of care).
    This isn't the full picture, obviously. We still would have role encroachment to deal with (WAR's absurd sustain).

    XIV's not quite at that point but if keeps sticking to its stagnant, formulaic design choices it might end up that way eventually. Or at least I'd like to think even the more casual audience has a tolerance limit.

    if you take a look at how the story is being written, look at how the loporitt tribe quests were designed, and now how they introduced solution 9 and its raid series... well that should tell you every single thing you need to know about the casual audience which to be clear i'm not dissing it i think everyone should enjoy what they like but it is pretty obvious what the developers line of thinking is will rake in the most cash flow and most players

    Except that is just blatantly not true. If you go look at the latest ultimate clears, you know the hardest content in the game, you will find that the healers STILL use 70%+ of their GCDs on damage. Even on the really low ranked clears.

    (Before you ask no I’m not good enough to do it myself and I respect the hell out of them for it)

    The fact that it’s even mathematically possible to clear TOP without healers is blatant proof that healer kits aren’t being tested. If your kit can put out 75k HPS and the content is only asking for like 10,000 then no your kit isn’t being challenged

    As a healer main in this game for nigh on 14 years all I can say is that I’m tired. My role has been eroded of complexity and expression for 3 expansions. I’ve watched the tanks do my role for me for 2 expansions and my feedback and critiques continue to fall on deaf ears.

    I have no idea who modern healers are designed for but I know now it’s not me. This is the first expansion I’m truly considering dropping the healer role and not returning, so if that was the goal- congratulations I guess

    I agree with you, believe me. I'm also of the opinion that lvl 90 players should no longer be treated with kid gloves because they have had over a hundred hours to learn their jobs. It's just that I see the argument that we need to ensure casual players can do the MSQ really often. And if Hydaelyn Normal was a problem, then idk anymore.

    Pesonally, I'm of the opinion that the game should slowly ramp up in difficulty while offering support for players to improve at their jobs. Not knowing the basics by 80+ is stupid. I don't mind that people want to treat FFXIV as a single player game but, even on easy mode, even most single player RPGs I've encountered required at least some level of competency to get through.
