For example let’s say there is 30 sets of 2 DPS in the levelling roulette of those 30 “parties” all 30 are looking for a healer, but one of those 30 parties is also looking for a tank. In this case AIN will show tanks as in need as there is one party that needs a tank even though healer is far more in need and has queues that will pop faster

It’s not about “well someone has to be listed in need when nobody is in need” it’s the fact that the system won’t even check healers to see if they are “more” in need when it determines that tanks are in need
Weird that it works that way and doesn't just compare the number of missing slots to each other, but I trust what you are saying is how it works, and would def explain seeing tank in need more frequently than normal.

Even with this being the case though, that means there are still always parties missing tanks just sitting there waiting on them instead of healers, or else if that 'only one party missing a tank' filled then it would immediately flip over to healer in need right after, no?

Queuing myself I still always get instant queues as a tank (I main PLD) and queuing WHM I generally have to wait, not terribly long but, not instant like tank - maybe 1-3 minutes, and can't seem to ever catch the healer in need bonus

I really do think tanks are just overall more in need still, at least as far as DF is concerned. PF they seem more even split.

My experience has been the opposite ever since ShB launched; despite DF listing tank in need, I always get instant queues as healer. Even currently when I do queue on PLD I still have to wait a few minutes before a queue pops. It was the opposite back when I started playing in SB where tanks were instant and healers were a few minutes wait. Maybe it's more of a data center thing? Unsure, but either way I don't like using AIN to show whether or not a role is "actually" in need / populated /unpopulated, etc. Luckybancho I think does a better job of showing what the general population of players prefer to play.

Another thing to add is that AIN also has its own "tick rate" of sorts where it only checks every 40-60s (not sure on the actual time) for what might be "in need". So even if for a brief period a tank might not be in need, if tanks were in need during that last tick, it'll still show as tanks in need. The bias towards tank was for early on in the games life to encourage people to play tank (as it was the least played role at the time), but nowadays I think the bias just isn't necessary anymore.
