The devs have admitted to going all in on encounter design at the expense of sanding down jobs. If they're truly going to be thinking about what to do with jobs by 8.0, it's going to be very interesting to see what they can come up with given their philosophy so far is so totally one sided.
I honestly don't have much hope for 8.0. They said increased job individuality and that they won't make jobs more simple. Job individuality could just be different spell effects and they keep healers at the same bar as they are now but not lower. Personally i'll be keeping a bare minimum of expectations, seems to have worked for me so far.The devs have admitted to going all in on encounter design at the expense of sanding down jobs. Perhaps SE assumes everyone will do Savage/Ultimates at one point? It doesn't help they seem more apt to listen to content creators in regards of that, but we have seen examples of raiders also dissatisfied with the current state of healers. People who say it's fine are non-main healers so there's strong (or little) bias.IMO the content that the majority of the playerbase interacts with should be one of the pieces of content that highlights how useful each role is to the team the most, making an entire role feel worthless to even be in it is terrible game design and should be looked at improving.
But endgame content isn't necessarily raiding for majority of people, for some it's crafting/gathering, for some housing... It just doesn't make sense why so fixated on allowing healers to be this boring.
If YoshiP wants healers to output DPS, then one solution would be to turn all healers into offensive support or something similar. Strip them of their GCD heals, increase potency on oGCD because those would be used more rarely. Instead, they could add support with buffs and benefits.I honestly don't have much hope for 8.0. Healers are mad that warriors are good in dungeons and can't really think outside of that. A lot of them haven't even experienced higher-end content. The ones that have are saying they'd like more dps buttons, which the casuals are kind of just ignoring because it's specifically warrior that's ruining their jobs.
My dudes. Dungeons aren't good content. If you're basing your entire experience off of dungeon runs, your opinion is completely invalid. Unsub if you're not having fun. Be responsible for once in your lives. Y'all are actually beyond ridiculous at this point.

Hate to say it but healer has just been another dps since ARR in dungeons, nothing has changed. I run dungeons with the same WHM all the time and they know the drill, only need to heal me if the dps is crap and trash pulls are taking too long and even then healing is extremely minimal and all of this is based on a dungeon done by some of the best people in the game, guarantee that over 80-90% of groups would not pull this off without a pocket healer around for emergency healing when shit goes tits up.
I agree healers need more but its not healing, they need more skills for dps because dps on healer is boring as hell with very few skills but people that are actually striking purely because you can't heal are not playing the job properly you are a crutch for when shit goes wrong when things are not going wrong you should be doing dps.
Most of the people here complaining are probably healer pures with some people mixed in that knows its other things that is wrong but healer pures that do not know they have dps buttons are a waste of space and I hope you play something else. Nothing really changes for 8 man content either, keep the tank alive and heal raid wides, outside of that dps, Only time you will be actually properly healing in 8 man content is with a group that does not know what they are doing. Don't mean to be rude but this is and has always been the case and it is best you realise it now and work with it or start thinking is this the role you want to play.
tldr.
Changes to healer dps - yes
Make changes so I can actually heal - go play something else please and stop complaining, you are a waste of a party slot.
I don't think you've been paying too much attention then.
It's very possible to both increase the amount of damage we receive from a faint tickle to "wow I might die from the next raidwide" in casual content without overwhelming casual players, and have a decent enough DPS kit for when no one is in danger. ARR through SB had that as the model; heal when it's needed, DPS otherwise, it's the sheer abundance of free heals from non-healers and the lack of any damage in content that makes us DPS more than ever, and makes us pointless as healers when we can just be replaced by another tank or DPS.
Nerf non-healer heals and increase the frequency of incoming damage AND give us back an actual DPS kit, otherwise we will forever be stuck with healers feeling pointless, boring, or both.
#FFXIVHEALERSTRIKE
Healers have been neglected for 3 expansions now and this needs to be rectified with the following:
- An engaging DPS kit beyond a nuke and DoT.
- Increased incoming damage so we have more to heal.
- Distinctive playstyles amongst the healers.
- Some nerfs to non-healer heals, we shouldn't be replaceable.

Even if they have a tank level rotation, why should anyone play a literal crutch when they could play a real DPS. Nobody disputes doing damage when they don't have to heal.
I will agree with one thing though,
healers are a waste of a party slot
