  • Rare Conditional Spawn Mobs - many zones should have mobs that only appear under special conditions: Weather type, Moon Phase, Mob family kills in the zone, harvesting thresholds reached, etc. The mobs could be part of quests, NMs for loot, or just interesting curiosities. (Imagine a zone where after logging [x] amount of a rare wood, a Grove Guardian appears, travels a path through each logging point and then fades)
  • Scavenger hunt type quests - Like the XI quest: "An Explorer's Footsteps" where you have to collect the imprints from the stone monoliths hidden around the world..
  • Mob Hunts - FFXII style.
This.

First off, I particularly LOVED the mob hunts quests in FFXII (conducted by Clan Centurio) and it would be awesome to have a system like this that also got transpired onto a "Notorious Monster Defeated! list" that was unique to every player.

The suggestion for a scarvengers hunt quest... (I guess you were referring to a Cartographers guild?)...was also a great idea and I remember asking a similar question a while back on the Core or Zam forums. It was a lot of fun completing the "explorer's footsteps" on FFXI... helped flesh out a lot of the lore.

Also, if I remember correctly, a while back on the FFXI Garuda server there was also a "map hunt" fever where everyone kept scrambling to get every single map on Vanadiel. Exciting stuff and I'd like to see that on Eorzea.
