I absolutely hate positionals, but Monk was the one class where positionals felt like they were actually a meaningful part of the class rather than a tacked on afterthought. I absolutely support Monk getting their positionals back; it was the only class that was doing positionals right!

Simply put, I liked positionals because it was one of the few areas of the game where I could actively work on improving my performance. Seeing that I only hit 93% rear Bootshines on my first boss clear would fill me with revulsion, but it also motivated me to play better for next time--it gave me a reason beyond shiny loot to WANT to replay savage. This tier, P11S was the only fight I enjoyed reclearing, and that's because I enjoyed the challenge of trying to hit all of my positionals in a fight that constantly forced me to stay still and move away from the boss' ass. I would've enjoyed that fight much more if I still had all six of my positionals (not that it really mattered in the end, since my static stopped raiding before I could get anywhere close to hitting 100%).

And look, I want intricate combo trees too, but why are we acting as if they have to be mutually exclusive with positionals? Have one melee be the positional job, and the other be the intricate combo job. Or better yet, they could incorporate both ideas and introduce a melee with branching combo trees that change depending on what positionals you're able to hit. It's incredible yet saddening to think about what CBU3 is capable of making when they're not needlessly pruning things from the game.
Very well put, I'm glad you could offer your own personal experience into the mix! That's exactly why I like positionals, they give you something to improve at after every pull. When you're learning a hard fight you miss a lot of positionals, but as you get better it's another thing that keeps the early stages of a fight engaging as you focus on improving them.

I really dread the next expansion potentially leading to us just sitting on the boss's flank for 9 GCDs consecutively, and I will continue to not have any interest in the job if that's the case.

They could make them an even more minimal gain, I would still do them as they satisfy the feeling of using fight knowledge to your advantage for damage/uptime akin to BLM's general playstyle and reliance on fight knowledge.

There's not much skill expression left in the game, so hopefully it's not lost anytime soon...

Definitely agree! Even if it was 10 potency extra I'd still do them and be happy to do so.

I'd rather see new nuances that fit with todays battle fight designs like more intricate combo trees like they seem to do with viper
true. positional is an obsolete relic of ARR that doesnt really fit todays battle fight design. if they want to make MNK 'harder' and 'more fun', there are a lot of other ways to do it instead of 'bringing back positionals'

You have nothing to back up your statement that they are "obsolete" or that they "don't fit" today's fight design. You can just look through this thread and see multiple example of people talking about how they ENHANCE fight design and make fights more enjoyable to clear multiple times. You, like most anti-positional people, are just making things up because you're bad at them.

Don't drag the rest of us down with you please! It's okay if you can't hit them all the time!

The people who want positionals back are the ones who understand what it brings to combat without adding any additional buttons.

The people who want to remove them are wrong.

well, embargo has been lifted and we now know that Monk still only has 2 positionals, while Viper has a whopping 6 lmao.

They also removed the buff from Twin Snakes and the DoT from Demolish so you can't spam Dragon Kick for Monk easy mode anymore.
