    Flickering opening movie

EDIT: I no longer get the screen flickering, instead game is back to crashing upon opening movie launch.

When I try to play the opening movie I get super bad flickering on the screen.

When I installed on day 1 the movie looked great. Eventually when I tried to view it again it flickered to the point of unwatchability, then a subsequent patch made FFXIV crash when I launched the movie. I just reinstalled FFXIV to see if that would help. I was surprised to find it back to flickering when it patched itself up.

What can I do about it?

    EDIT: specs:

    Steps:
Launch FFXIV > Launch Opening Movie > Crash

    Graphics Card:
    Nvidia GTX470 x2

You might mess with your Vsync and Triple Buffering settings for your card. And make sure you have the most recent video drivers.

    Are you using SLI?

You would benefit from posting all of your specs, using the template from the stickied thread.

    Neptune:

I have the same problem and I am running 2 480 GTX's. I have reason to believe that the driver support for the 400 series is terrible. Nvidia seems to have pushed the 480's to the trash to focus on their newer cards now. The last WHQL driver for the 400 series was in January and is still the latest. When using the standard SLI profile with whatever latest driver is out, my opening CG flickers so bad it hurts my eyes. I also cannot enable depth of field in game with the standard SLI profile. Anytime a spell is cast or a teleport is used (while DoF is enabled) the game becomes very choppy and unplayable. However, when I disable DoF my game runs fine. I love DoF and I have a nice system so there shouldnt be any reason to disable this feature. For now, I am using a custom profile to fix this issue with SLI Tool. I use the Crysis 2 SLI profile and paste that over the XIV profile. This fixes 2 things but adds another It fixes the flickering CG at the start and it allows me to use DoF with no hiccups. In place of this, my in game cutscenes now flicker really bad when the scene fades out of one and into another. Its annoying but I don't see enough cutscenes anymore for it to be a problem right now. Hope this helps.

Ok that's cool, I will post my specs. I don't want to do Bittereye's workaround so let's see what we can come up with. Bittereye, I can do DoF but then again I'm running 2x 470s.

    So I have

    Intel i7 930 2.8GHz
    2x Nvidia GTX 470s SLI
    6 gigs of RAM
    FFXIV on SSD
    Win7
    latest drivers

    etc.

Maybe it is indeed a bug. Can we get someone else running SLI to test their opening movie? This might make sense because now that I think of it I watched the opening movie the first day on 2x 460s then upgraded to 470s a week later or so.

With my 250 GTS's in SLI, I get flickering, but only at very specific parts of the cutscene. When transitioning between certain scenes. And it doesn't happen when I'm not using SLI.

Beta drivers should have cleared this little issue up.

Tested on a rig using the latest WHQL versus the new 270.51 Beta, and it's no longer an issue on the test machine.

Aye, I had this problem when using SLI. It was largely fixed by disabling VSync and enabling triple buffering.

Since upgrading to a single GTX580 I haven't had this problem.

Cool, I'm going to try that. I can't believe it's drivers/SLI/settings. I thought for sure it was corrupted data or something. Haha.

Ok I forced Vsync to off and enabled triple buffering - still get crash on opening movie launch.

Also still get crash even with SLI turned off.
