I wanted to make a post on the forums to just say I am very happy with patch 7.0. I truly think that Dawntrail is the best that FFXIV has been since I first played in 2013 and has taken my favorite expansion spot from Shadowbringers 5.0.
I've seen a lot of negativity under the official @FFXIV_EN Twitter posts, from some content creators, and on these forums. I'm not going to make a post going "THEY'RE WRONG" because just like my reasons for loving Dawntrail are okay, most of theirs for disliking it are too. People hating the voice actors or the characters they play or the locations because they're just a bigot holds no valid criticism though.
Viper and Pictomancer have been so fun to play to me! I am really enjoying the changes to Monk, Dragoon, Bard, and Black Mage as well. I'm planning on going into Arcadion Savage as MNK
The dungeons are great. The Extreme trials are fun! The normal raids are amazing! I enjoyed the story of the Arcadion a lot, but the actual raids are fun to play. A big kudos to Soken and the sound team for the raid themes.
I am super excited for the 7.x patch content! I think the characters we were shown in this expansion are some of the best they've made in a long time. I love Wuk Lamat. I love Koana. I am very happy that Krile and Erenville were given more time in the spotlight. I'm excited to see what we do next. I didn't play FF11, but I can't wait for the alliance raid in 7.1. I enjoyed Aglaia in Endwalker, but the rest of the series was just boring to play through. Based on what we've gotten so far, I expect it to be great to go through weekly.
I only really have a few points from Dawntrail that were jarring, and I really don't like:
I don't think the sound team should not have used the song "Smile" 3 times. It's use in the quest "A Hot Commodity" (lvl 96) just took me out. Yes, they didn't play the entire version of Smile, and I think it was so beautiful as the end credits, but even hearing it the quest "Dawn of a New Tomorrow" (lvl 95) was weird to me.
Phase 2 of the level 100 trial was amazingly underwhelming. When I first did The Dying Gasp in Shadowbringers and we had to break free and make a final push to beat Hades before he used Black Cauldron: peak. When I first did The Final Day in Endwalker and that "Light the way!" cutscene came in I started crying (again). I understand that this was essentially between Wuk Lamat and Sphene, but it just felt like the party is just beating her up while they're having an argument.
This game means a lot to me, and I am happy that Dawntrail lived up to the hype. I am very much looking forward to what we get next. I know this hasn't been very constructive and just me being "I like this
" but I really think a lot of things are moving in the right direction and I hope we see more improvements before 8.0. Thank you very much to the teams putting this all together for us.
