"The worst foe lies within the self."
The changes people are asking for are generally all subtle in reality, and would still keep whatever option somebody chooses in 7.0 as their closest equivalent (god help me think of a less confusing way to word this).
EXAMPLE: Your choice of upturned eye will still be upturned. Your choice of thick lips will still be thick. Etc. It's why the free fantasias aren't helping anybody who's unsatisfied.
It is extremely possible to make a character's impression closer to the original while keeping the updated form. Look at the changes between male Viera from Benchmark 1.0 and 1.1. They're not exactly the same as 6.58, but with the adjustments they received, there's significantly less people complaining about them now.
The results of adjusting to received feedback is less of a big deal than you think it is. A character will likely look better after receiving special attention; they'll just have a resting expression closer to the original.
Also, dude, you speak way too confidently when they've straight up shown and now said time and time again that they're listening to feedback and applying what adjustments they can with what little time they're currently afforded.
In a sense I don’t disagree with you, but the only things we know with certainty are what the devs have said directly. One thing they’ve said is that its their intention to keep to the original look and feel of everyone’s characters as much as possible. Another thing they’ve said is they plan to keep taking feedback and making adjustments post release. It’s not out of the question that we’ll see more face changes, and personally I hope we do. Preserving the look of characters people have become attached to for up to 10 years in a subscription based game sounds like something that might be a priority.
I noticed the finer details just fine and was quite pleased with them outside of an obvious bug. When the second benchmark released I discovered that a detail I really liked was completely removed because it was a little different from the original. That definitely did not look "even better," it looked worse. Now I'm nervous about what else is going to be made worse due to feedback, and I've seen some truly bizarre feedback on the face I use, so I can certainly empathize with others who feel that way.In many cases I suspect that the people who like the updates are liking the overall vibe of increased textures while not noticing the finer details, and it's quite possible that the corrections being asked for would make the characters look even better in ways they hadn't realised were wrong.
I've seen a couple lodestone comparisons and the fact that mine has not changed during downtime has been soothing to say the least. I don't want to post anyone without their permission, but the resting eyes (primarily pupil position) do not look the same on Au Ra at all. It's like night and day.

Edit because SchwarzwaelderTorte made an important point:
What I was trying to say was not "the other side definitely thinks X" but rather that the devs take in feedback from many different communities who may or may not think differently from each other. So whatever happens is not just the result of the English speaking forum.I'm very sorry to tell you this but it's because it hasn't been updated yet (go back a few pages and you'll find how you can check).
I'm still waiting for mine to update too, not really sure how the priority works.
I would be very careful with that kind of statement. (as I've already explained a while ago to someone who shall not be named to spare us all another headache)
You can't really draw conclusions on how different regions work, because we all only see a small fraction of a much bigger community, and within that small fraction you have extremely different ways of interacting with the forums, or social media and what the algorithm gives you etc.
I did convey it very badly though since I made a lot of speculative assumptions I can't verify.
Old post for the sake of transparency:
I think one point that should not be forgotten in this whole discussion is that the Japanese side (and many other language communities) of the player base has (/have) also given a lot of feedback. And from what I remember (but please correct me if I'm wrong), their feedback on the forums during the 1.0 benchmark was a lot more damning than ours. It seems like there were some open calls to just flat out cancel the update.
I don't know if it has changed with 1.1 but it's important to keep in mind that different regions seem to have different opinions on the character changes (JPN was/still is(?) rather dissatisfied whereas the English speaking side seems to be rather mixed.)
And there also seem to be different opinions on certain aesthetics (not sure if this is true but I read that the JPN side preferred the sharp look of female Au Ra whereas Korean players preferred the new cute version).
All in all, the entirety of the feedback is very diverse and goes beyond what happens in our discussions, so whatever gets changed or ignored is not just based on our corner's feedback.

EDIT to add: To develop on that last point, the Japanese forums have had negative experiences of EN players barging in, asking questions, and then going back on the EN forums to say "see? they agree with me!" when it's impossible to make that kind of conclusion based on a small number of replies. I've seen the incident mentioned several times on their side so it seems to be something worth keeping in mind.

Yeah this is a good point. Maybe I should edid/update the post (I'll leave the original in place though for transparency). The point I wanted to make was less "the other side definitely thinks X" but rather that the devs take in feedback from many different communities who may or may not think differently from each other. But thank you for pointing out the problem with my post, I appreciate it!
I've admittedly been checking to see if it has changed quite frequently, so in my case it's more like a "calm before the storm".
I picked up on some characters changing immediately after the game went down so I think it really is entirely random.
