    The typos you made any normal person wouldn't misspell if they were calm and had a good grasp of English writing and spelling; attacking me by saying I'm insecure, saying "I'M" the one seething and the repeated use of the word -cope- when you're actually using it wrong and it doesn't apply to me. I have no reason to cope because at this moment. I'm getting what I want. I like how the characters look, if anybody is coping it's you since you're still using old slides of "we're going to keep the feel of the overall look of the characters" you're using that argument to try to convince yourself they can still change the characters aka "coping". Also love how you conveniently left of the part where yoshi-p said "there will be some differences" Aka...another sign of coping :P

    Whats funny here is if you look above you'll see it says character creation environmental parameters aka character creation background.
    So if you had decent reading comprehension and understood what you read and the context; you would know they're talking about the character creation background. To go further they've been talking about it since the whole benchmark problems started and how they should have updated it.
    Your first post however suggested they didn't add the lighting to the -actual- game rather than the character creation backgrounds since you said "does nobody else find it actually insane and telling that major lighting changes were done within a month--not just for characters, but for the whole game? The gameplay trailer even uses the old lighting and it shows! It looks bad! This stuff clearly isn't fully baked!" This suggests you're talking about the actual game rather than just the character creation menu when they actually shown the new lighting in the job action LL and also the new lighting in the media tour videos which is a 2+ month old build of the game.

    I actually don't think it necessarily means that? The hair and hats are still separate meshes that would all have to be adjusted to fit, just like before. They could maybe run a program to morph things but they're still gonna have to check each and every one and manually adjust just like before so no real change there. The heads are still roughly the same shape. Using a universal basemesh and shapekeys seems more of an effort to streamline new animation than for things like existing hats and hairs.

    Preliminary patch notes are live on the Lodestone, there's a few low res photos of character models if anyone is curious about what we're getting in the graphics update launch.



    No notable changes on female Au Ra faces, I know it's not out yet and I didn't expect anything to change but I'm already feeling defeated.

    Is anyone planning to create a new thread for discussion of the graphics update when 7.0 comes out? I don't think benchmark thread will be appropriate and it would be nice to keep the conversation going.

    Agreed, although I'd hope any devs looking for things like this wouldn't disregard this wholesale over semantics. If another thread is made, maybe it should include a link to this one (and maybe alongside any other threads with unresolved concerns from the benchmark) for easy reference, so the discussion here in the NA forums feels less scattered.

    Unless they're really streamlining/reworking the code surrounding the faces, I don't think they use the same base mesh and are shape-keyed to other faces in the game, but rather that's something they do when exporting the faces from their 3D modelling program to ensure the number of polys are uniform. It wouldn't make sense with how some races have human ears and some don't, wouldn't cover the horns or miqo/viera ears. And I don't really see them even unifying the mesh even between the same race unless they intend to give us all of the cusomisation options for each face on all of them, which... they haven't, as wonderful as that would be.

    One thing along these lines they do appear to have done though, is while the faces models across the subraces were the same model (say Sea Wolves and Hellguard), the textures were different. That was how they got the Hellsguard to have the smudge, but the Sea Wolves didn't. Now, the smudge is actually a separate piece of the model that floats juuuust off of the nose like eyebrows and beards do, which is hidden on Sea Wolves and the textures appear to be completely shared.

    They do some really neat things to lower file size! But unfortunately a unified head model isn't quite it.

    I want to point out with what love and precision they recreated the stones and outfits, almost pixel by pixel.

    it's even a little envious that my character has lips, and not this stone instead of them.

    I'm actually concerned about that super-woven cloth texture; it looks primed for creating horrible moire patterns at any kind of distance – and indeed even right there in the screenshot.

    I feel like the "HD" gear has had trouble for a while with textures being too fine and just turning into a pixelly mess. The Monstrorum weapons and embroidery on the Cryptlurker DPS coats are particular problem items that come to mind. I think also that first new PVP series reward with the black-and-red armour.

    That's absolutely not an issue at modern render resolutions above 1080p. There comes a point where the game just needs to stop catering to 15 year old hardware.
