Can we please get a subscription rate for both FFXIV and FFXI?

I've spoken with a few friends who would happily pay a slightly higher subscription fee for access to both games, rather than just one. (A lot of people can be put off paying for both)

This used to be a thing a few years back, but it was a limited time offer. Just hoping that SE would be willing to do it again to see if it's profitable.

Why would SE do this? They don't care about XI and want you to be playing this game, and people who want to play both games tend to pay both subs

I've always been confused they've not done this. Yoshi-P has famously said that if you're bored between patches, go play another game. SE have another MMO and offering a discount might keep all the money with them rather than some of it going elsewhere.

Whilst it's old and a very different style, I can say from experience it is still possible to get enjoyment from it as a new player, and if you get you and 2 or 3 real life or FC buddies and you all switch games at the same time it could be good fun.
At the least I would have thought an active FFXIV subscription would get you a free 30 day trial (I dont think FFXI has one does it?)

I am one of those. I recently played XI (couple of months ago) when I was taking a ahort break from XIV (just logging in for tomestones and weeklies) and I had a blast! Very fun game, nice community. It's slow and it takes a bit to fet used to its terrible old UI but it's a great game. Finished a couple of expansions but my subscription died past the middle point of Chains of Promathia. (I love Prishe).

Aye, I did a stint on it...probably a year ago, maybe a bit more. Got to level....52 I think, started various expansions. A friend who played it as his first MMO back when it was still quite new (and it nearly scarred him for life and stopped him playing MMO's :-D ) has recently decided to give it a go again as a change of pace from FFXIV, so i'm back on going through stuff with him. Tonights goal - get him to Norg and his first Rhapsody! :-)

Why would SE do this? Because it has the potential to bring additional profit. There are players who would be willing to play both games for a reduced fee rather both at full price.

They don't care about FFXI? I mean this just isn't true. The game still has monthly updates and still generates income.

With the retainer costs, that alone makes it like a sub model. 7 retainers is 14 dollars a month, so there is enough to FFXIV to make it a sub model. most likely just change the retainer cost to 3 dollars each and drop the sub cost. It feels like ffXIV wants to be F2P without actually being one.

I am in support the idea if by concpt alone, most places of the business world gives bulk prices sort of speak. There is a reason that has been done for so long by so many.

Still nowhere close. F2P means constant reminders that there is something to buy: whether it's your action bars, inventory, every quest you turn in, at every in game vender, your character screen, there is always something you can buy to "improve" your game experience. You have to develop tunnel vision to ignore all the currency symbols and other reminders to have any sense of immersion.

You need a lesson on economics. I'm not about to give you one. I'll just say this:


Both games currently have subscribers. I'm gonna guess FFXIV has more but whatever. And yeah sure, some people are probably paying subscriptions for both games. But consider that there might be some people who would be willing to subscribe for both games, but don't because it's expensive. If Square were to come out with a subscription option that joins both games together, those players might be interested.

Of course, they would lose money from the people who currently subscribe individually to both games at once. So it would be a matter of analyzing how much of a loss this would be, compared to the potential number of players who would adhere to the new model.

Or, an account covered by this subscribtion could only cover one active character. This way, lots of FFXI players would still retain thir current subscription, if only to keep all their characters active at the same time, while new player would be ok with having only one.
