Your FOVs are vastly different. You can't just use a shot from the game without matching them.My brain has decided I don't get to sleep tonight, so, benchmark. I tried to get the angles right but I'm not sure on account of it's 6 am and I have not been able to sleep. (don't... don't compare color, that's not what's being compared here or I would have been assed to move from where I left him.)
e: i am so tired. screw it. have url. https://imgbox.com/osxEAzKu
Face shape seems different (narrower and less soft, mostly), will need to do a more detailed breakdown with better comparison lighting once I've gotten any sleep to be sure. Brows still seem thinner than live, but at least it's a small difference this time and one I mind a lot less than the rest. More concerning, the lip shape issue is still there; his lips have a much more shallow curve in live, and unlike the rampant issue of beestung lips among women it makes his lips look weirdly thin in comparison, and i'm pretty damn sure this isn't just lighting. More concerning is that his lower lashes are thinner, smaller, and fill less of the lower lash line! Where are his beautiful lashes! Who stole his mascara!
Don't get me wrong: this is much, much better than the old benchmark. This still is not my boy. Maybe it's his brother? But it ain't him.

If you have better options for a close-up I'm genuinely open to hearing it. The live character creator lighting is so weird I don't particularly want to use it for this because it will make things harder to compare when I'm specifically trying to compare the face I look at every time I log into the game for this (because it does look subtly different than in-game and I want to eliminate that), and the only recent cutscene shots I have all have his glasses on which drastically alters how I read his face.
Since some people are already trying to say we're all wrong and don't know shapes. Nevermind that the devs specifically asked for feedback on the updated benchmark and character adjustments and said they'll continue to make improvements.
(reiterating I am much happier with the 2.0 bench overall for this character in particular. less so for my femhyur)

The benchmark update definitely improves things overall, but I'm disappointed that the mouth on Face 2 femras hasn't been changed back to its original shape. That was my biggest issue with how my WoL looked in the original benchmark, and it's still my biggest issue now.
Ignore that the caption on the far left of the third image says 6.55. It should say 6.58.

Thank you!
You're welcome.
If it's any consolation, I think your character is one of the most attractive female au ra I've ever seen. While I don't expect the problem of incorrect mouth shapes on many character models to be resolved by Dawn Trail's release, I do hope it is fixed in an early patch. It's clear it's a big issue for many players.

Once thing that's really heartening to me is we are seeing evidence CBU3 is taking our feedback seriously. There has been a big improvement in our characters from the earlier benchmark and now.
I'm keeping fingers crossed we'll be seeing the issues hrothgar, highlanders, and viera players have brought up addressed in a reasonable timeframe too. I truly feel Square Enix understands they need to impress us in Dawn Trail. They can't afford to phone this expansion in, especially in light of their recent lackluster releases.

This is my main in the old version of the benchmark and in the live game's character creation mode.
And here is the new benchmark version.
+ The lighting and shadows have been greatly improved compared to both the live game and the old benchmark
+ Eyes have a shine to them again and they look alive
+ The lips look three dimensional again
+ A smaller portion of the ear turns pink, giving a more natural look
+ Eye liner makeup has been made closer to the original and not so heavy
+ Hair quality is better
+ The skin doesn't have a green undertone like in the first benchmark
- Nostril shape / side of the nose has changed?
- Lip shape is still different and smaller compared to the original
- Lips are less glossy than in the live game
- Eyebrows are still light and not black
I'm too lazy to post my alts but they feel mostly the same to me compared to the first benchmark. My male Hroth is manlier (+), my female Roe is prettier (+), and my male Duskwight Elezen has tired eye bags (-). I don't play those characters much so it's all the same to me. My female Elezen undeniably has better graphics but she still doesn't look quite like herself, regardless of lighting conditions. I think it boils down to the eyebrow color and lip shape being different from the original.
My overall thoughts about the update are that the changes in the new benchmark had the intended effect: to improve the graphical quality of the game. This was not achieved in the first benchmark, so I'm very thankful to the devs for making these adjustments. They addressed a lot of concerns people had about their characters and fixed some unintended bugs too. This new version actually looks like it is ready for launch. Additionally, the changes made to character creation lighting conditions and fantasia potions are excellent!

Further improvements but very subtle this time and in this lighting. Mouth corners are still pulled up.

My midlander still looks weird. His eyebrows are also a lot thinner. I'll post some comparison pics later, but I definitely prefer the older model.
never thought I'll be complaining about the most basic male miqo and here I am
hoped this minor feature will be fixed in the new benchmark, but alas. type 3 mouth got flattened as hell in the first bench, it got better in the second one... well, a bit. upper lip is still nonexistent. I wish there was a fuller mouth option, but there just isn't!
(pardon my hand drawn paintover, i tried)
this isn't MUCH, my character looks nice overall, and still I'm kinda sad. his funny lips are somewhat like a defining face feature for me. guess my catto ran out of money for lip botox idk lmao

Much more happy with the new benchmark! It's not perfect but so much better and many of my issues have been addressed. My character looks like her old self again, instead of what she looked like in the original benchmark. Thankyou for listening Square Enix!!
