Fantasia Use Pre-Dawntrail (Need actual feedback)

I'm sitting on two fantasias right now and I'm wondering if it's going to be the same thing as Heavensward; where we were told not to use a Fantasias before launch because it would be lost.

Is Dawntrail going to be the same way where we have to wait or can we use one early before launch and change race before login on launch day?

The character creator obviously won't be updated until launch day. It is something you are meant to do after it launches, when the server and client patches have been applied.

There will be a quest for a free fantasia anyway. Using a fantasia will also let you make further changes within 60 minutes.

Another thing to note is that after Dawntrail launch, the 60 minutes change grace period is in-game time, not real time.

Character save data in benchmark should also be able to be carried over to the full game as well.


I had a fantasia sitting in my inventory for the past year and a half and the other day I decided to return to rabbit for a month to get it out of my system before getting the free one to change back. And so I can see if any new hairstyles are unlocked in DT on Viera, particularly the market board/mogstation hairstyles I have that aren't yet available. Hoping there might be some head slot adjustments as well.

I for one do not want to be sitting in a 5 hour login queue twice because of fantasia use, so I'm curious about the same thing. Unless they post a notification about not using a fantasia, I'll be drinking the one I bought during a sale before the game goes down for maintenance and changing to Hrothgal before I login for the first time in Dawntrail. I'm not sure if the 60 minute grace time will apply to fantasias consumed before the update though.

You can pop a fantasia the night before the expansion. It says active, so when you login in, you will be prompted to edit your character. I did it for both Shadowbringers and Dawntrail. You don't lose it.

Yes, it's 60 minutes of in-game playtime, so an actual hours worth of time. The time you're logged out doesn't count either.

You can pop the fantasia before the 2-day maintenance. I did this before Shadowbringers to change to Viera. I got into the game, and changed the way you always do before logging in. I used the benchmark data to select my character right away and get going. Just remember to unequip all gear before logging out (this is very important, or you will have to log out and back in again, and queues are likely to be long).


Now that all said, if you are counting on that 60 minute timer, I would advise waiting to use it until servers stabilize a bit just so you don't have to log back in during the big queues to make small changes.
