The poster above pointed out the lack of a Soul Crystal. While you should have these after level 30, I disagree that it's necessarily a problem - gear is the most important factor.

I asked about the Soul Crystal because without it they would be missing a lot of job abilities. This would certainly make a big difference in their ability to defeat a boss solo with a damage check.

If you're having trouble my first thought would be to check your gear, depending on what you have it can make quite a difference.
