ff 14 ...Can't Pass Main Quest quest

Hi .
I have been stuck in a Main Quest Boss. I'm not kidding when I say I played this 40+ times and I die. What quest, you say... It's "Requiem for Heroes". I've seen many videos and watched them over and over and over and still I get killed. The part I get killed is when 3 thunder spikes shows up. I could only destroy 2 out of 3 thunder spikes. I'm a level 90 Lancer, if you were wondering. I'm also a level 80 archer. If there was an item that I can buy, to pass a "boss", I would have bought it. So any advice besides, ..." keep on trying" , "watch more videos for tips", "try different weapons". and so on.

Can't a "game master" play this for me?

Just to be clear, you're a level 90 Dragoon, right? Cause if you're a Lancer, that's you're problem. Also, what's your item level? Assuming you are doing mechanics and playing your job correctly, perhaps you can just increase your raw damage output.

The poster above pointed out the lack of a Soul Crystal. While you should have these after level 30, I disagree that it's necessarily a problem - gear is the most important factor. Looking at your character, you are actually a level 90 Dragoon while your Archer is level 13.

I actually had the same issue as you, so I know what you mean. I failed the duty the first time (and I've played for 9 years and beat lots of savage raids for context).

On my first attempt, I spread my damage across different orbs without actually killing them (I had lower damage due to being a tank). I was a melee job like you. I spread my damage across different orbs so I could avoid the AoEs.

On my second attempt, I killed one orb at a time. If an AoE appeared in the way, I just used my ranged attack from a distance (in your case as a Dragoon, this is Piercing Talon). This succeeded.

The reason it likely worked on my second attempt is that each orb builds the meter on your screen. So if you kill 1 at a time, it reduces the rate at which it builds. If you spread your damage across different orbs, all the orbs remain alive for ages and contribute to the meter. The result is it builds fast and kills you.

So this is either an easy mechanic or a hard mechanic depending on how you approached it and that's why some people find it difficult and others not.

To answer your questions, yes you can buy an MSQ skip book from the mog station. This skips the entire story up to the beginning of Endwalker (they're also on sale now I think). You can replay the story after this in chapters, but you can't choose the specific point you start at. The chapters are like the first quarter of the expansion, second quarter of the expansion, up to the fourth quarter. No, I don't believe a GM would play it for you or assist you with that.

I asked about the Soul Crystal because without it they would be missing a lot of job abilities. This would certainly make a big difference in their ability to defeat a boss solo with a damage check.

If you're having trouble my first thought would be to check your gear, depending on what you have it can make quite a difference.

Since OP has a soul crystal as a level 90 Dragoon, I doubt that is the issue. Jeeqbit's solution works nicely, the recommended solution as a physical DPS is to work on each sword one at a time, ignoring AoE attacks and using DoTs where applicable. [That also worked great as a Bard who could move].

Also, the quest is much easier to resolve if you use the 'easy' button when entering after a failed attempt. Less damage to you and more damage from you.

The iLevel 400 weapon (Allagan Tomestone of Poetics in Rhalgr's Reach [still 600 Poetics?]) will help with the damage. If you have a full set of Augmented Scaevan armor and/or accessories (available in Kugane or Rhalgr's Reach for Poetics, which are easy to get if you do roulettes a bunch) it'll also help.
