If it works on steam and says playable or better on steamdeck then it will work on any linux distro with steam installed just the same.

Yeah 2+ years ago when the deck was brand new there were issues with anti cheat in linux however that is not a thing anymore.

Also your post is just a bunch of paragraphs complaining about anti cheat (shocker) and saying that linux users wouldnt put up with anti cheat programs (yes they would because they currently do). There isn't a clear "issue" you have to be resolved... Unless of course you are trying to run games through steam on a VM in linux which... I, I have no idea you are going to have to clarify because that makes no sense. Just make sure proton is turned on and run the games through steam, even games that aren't steam games can be run through proton.

Honestly, if they actually actioned reports with any degree of frequency there likely wouldn't be any issues with cheaters.

The fact that you can catch people speedhacking just while casually moving about cities or ocean fishing yet they won't do anything about it is vexing to say in the least.

It always boils down to: "I dont like the game as it is!" or "I want the game to do x or i literally cant play it" or "Content Y is too hard i need the add-ons!" which is funny when on one side people scream the game got too easy and on the other side they need tools... or "game is literally unplayable!"

Yes i see Linux users might get in trouble and on the long run that worries me as, frankly said, F#### Microsoft, win10 will be my last one, so i will have to switch to linux at one point...


Of cause not all mods are bad! But once the door is open youll never know who to trust and people WILL abuse it, as all the Ultimates proofed. Like the "harmless" camera zoom hacks... mechanics are meant to be hard to see, to coordinate with others etc, not just to zoom till the moon so you see everything at once.


It just silly this always ends up with "stop cheats!" vs. "but muh hacks!"


All those who dislike the games look and gameplay... why do you insist on changing it? On Dawntrails launch we will have the usual 24/7 afk players mod their way into bypassing the afk kick and not even play. as if we werent full enough... on the first raids people will read out all the stuff again and give some an advantage and we all know the Eden ultimate will boil down on "who doesnt get caught cheating".


We play for fun but for some fun means doing whatever the f they want with whatever means they see fit.

They aren't the sole reason obviously but you also would have to be living under a rock to not notice how large the venue scene is now. As others have said in this thread and in general, it's comparable to Second Life (which I agree with to an extent). I don't believe it's a completely sex centered game but I do agree that ERP is a large part of the game's community now.

When I take the time to speak to new players these days, more often than not I hear that they joined because of their friends telling them about roleplay or the venue life we have here, not because of the actual story or content of the game. Of course there are some but it's definitely not the majority.

I mean, that's a big question. You have people who play solely for MSQ expansion launches for story and then dip until a patch or two before the new expansion to catch up. You have people who play this game to raid and then leave when they clear and come back for the next tier. I don't know anyone who plays this game for dailies and I'd probably question their sanity if they did, same with playing solely for sidequests that give you 300 xp and 5 gil. Achievement hunters exist but I see more complaints about how achievements work here/asking for it to be updated than I do about people being excited to grind 5k kills for a title.

Meanwhile you can go to any DC really and see venue ads being posted at all hours of the day. Crystal alone gets 50-100+ during prime time on PF but I know Aether also gets some traffic. Balmung shout chat is basically a dating app and hundreds of people crowd in Ul'Dah to get laid, I encourage you to go to the Quicksand to check it out if you haven't before. Venues are packed depending on who they hire to DJ, not to mention the obvious fact that people are making IRL cash/gil by working at these venues (As I said in a previous thread, you can find people advertising video call services now that charge actual money for it, I assume birthed from the chick that's been selling her feet pics for years now.

Unsure if Mare's census still exists too but last I saw/heard it was bordering on 40-50k active users at most hours but I wouldn't be shocked if it's larger now considering how openly people are using mods, even content creator wise (Feel free to go down that YouTube rabbit hole if you'd like). 40-50k is on par or way over the amount of people using Steam for 14 per month, as a comparison (currently sitting at 20k but has reached higher). Not to mention how some nude mods have hundreds of thousands of downloads and several modders are making a living off creating sex mods and having a Patreon/Ko-fi for them.

As for how often I ask, I am a mentor with access to Novice Network. I give out gil to new players whenever I am online (once or twice a week these days) and ask if there's anything I can help with or what their goals are. I have gil I don't need so I'd rather give it to newbies and feel useful/help with their progression, hence why I have these conversations.

There's a couple of factors you're not accounting for. Such as new players going through the MSQ. You say you're on the NN only once or twice a week so you only speak to a small handful of sprouts. There are plenty of sprouts who aren't in the NN, I was one of them as were many of my friends.

Also venue ads being posted all hours of the day isn't indicative of how popular something is. It just means someone is running ads for their own venue, paying someone to do it, or botting it. Regardless one day I decided to check out some of the venues on advertisement. This was some time ago but it was during prime time. And in visiting 5 different venues the total amount of people was about 100 spread throughout all 5 houses.

In conclusion I do not believe that modders are a majority, but a loud minority of players.
