CPU upgrade results with Dawntrail benchmark.

I'm Currently running an overclocked I7-8700K and an RTX 2070 GPU. The benchmark in maximum mode runs a score between 12,200. (Very High)

In some scenes, the GPU is at 100% load in task manager, while the CPU is around 80%, occasionally touching 100. In other scenes, it's the opposite, with CPU maxed, GPU nearly so.
Battle scenes with lots of spell effects loaded the GPU more, while lots of players strained the CPU.

For my first new system build in 9 years, I switched to a Ryzen 7800 X3d, Initial testing with my old GPU is interesting, in that the CPU is nearly idling all the time during the benchmark, and the GPU is completely slammed against the ceiling in all scenes.
Still, average FPS is up a bit rarely dropping under 60 with the new CPU.

My old system was both CPU and GPU bound depending on content, and the new CPU just shifted it all onto the GPU's back. Looks like I can't get away without buying a new GPU if I want to reach Extremely High.. (Yeah, I could have gotten by with the old system, but I needed an excuse to do a new build

XIV has always been very CPU limited, particularly with a bunch of characters on screen. Grats on the 7800 X3D! It's a really good CPU!

I by no means support/like intel or their CPUs but xiv is old enough to have an intel bias, that said I would have liked for you to see what the performance in the benchmark would have been if you clocked your old CPU to 5-5.2ghz all core. The 8700k should be able to do that no problem and I don't think it would have been too far off of what you are experiencing now just with possibly worse .1% lows.

I know the intel bias still exists as my AMD system which should score higher than some of my buddies doesn't even though they have older i7s. Ohh and please tell me you have 6000mhz RAM on your motherboards QVL and have set the docp/xmp profile to take advantage of all the 7800x3d has to offer.

You don't specify a resolution, but the monitor has a lot to do with it too. I just upgraded from a 1080 *2560 to a 1440*3440, and my i3-12100 would gladly do the same 70-80fps it always has, but my 1660ti is like "No, you get 40 fps now"

My monitor is 1920 x 1200 60 Hz. (Two of them, one for the game) I drop into the 50's while in large hunt trains. (106 at the moment in Radz.)

Are you running a graphics preset? If so which one.
What is your character density at?
What spell effects do you have on?

These are all questions you should answer before just blanket saying 1080p and getting X frame rate in Y scenario.

I have an 8700k overclocked on one core to 4.7GHz and a 4070ti super and I get about 16-17k score on bench max settings @1440p.
Waiting for new series of intel CPU to come out before I bother upgrading the rest of my PC.

4.7 is the stock turbo boost frequency, you haven't done anything but possibly lock one core to its out of the box limit. I do hope you tested each core to lock the one that is the best but with what you just said I doubt you even went that far. I wouldn't call that overclocking really.

It's been running like this happily for about six years. I've had no complaints. I didn't have much interest in trying to push five I just wanted the one core to be boosted so I set it higher.

I'm not saying you should mess with it, as a matter of fact if your CPU is doing what you want it to and you are happy you shouldn't. That said locking the frequency to something it would achieve out of the box and calling it an overclock is a bit of a stretch.
