Si a Relic weapon is not a solo quest, in order to obtain one your need to work together with others and even help people at times. While sure things may vary from luck and skill, the relic system has a very unique way of actually including everyone in the mix. A relic weapon is something that would make x crafted weapons obsolete so the idea of needing materia as well as the crafted class weapon is highly needed in order for them to have a way to profit since people most likely won't use their crafted weapons anymore once they obtain the relic of said job.

To attempt or consider a relic in a solo sense is like trying to play any FF "main series" title with only one character. Doing that you see it becomes a lot harder to beat the game but when you do have those 2-3 comrades by your side you realize the journey is a lot easier and less strenuous since everyone is helping one another. Though in the concept for relics it's more like 7 other people but honestly that's the best way to go about it. A stable static of 8 players working together on the same game, doing something like hamlet with pickup groups makes the whole journey even more tedious since you run into the risk of how loot is distributed
-1 person geta seal each (usually means a person will leave once they obtain seal)
-Drop to you, you keep it (lucky people could get 3/4 seals in a run while others are left with nothing)
-#1 and #2 choice but it could get confusing as you gain new members or have to replace half the party of how to be "fair" with drops

Then you have the whole class weapon and double meld which is high luck and a pain but you can alleviate it by knowing crafters and gatherers who may be willing to help and in turn you can help them spiritbond gear for grade IV materia.

Think outside the box when it comes to relic it's not a solo quest and if you think of ways you can barter with your fellow LS members to help one another out you can create a more synergistic way of obtaining them rather then trying to do everything with pickup groups.

The concept is definitely fine as it is if it wasn't then people/groups of ls members wouldn't have their relics already.
