I just hope they fixed how glasses sit on female viera's face, they're basically floating a feet away from their face.

I'm glad they listened to the players who pointed out all the things about the graphical update that were unacceptable to release, and not the players who tried to convince others nothing had changed. The dead eyes, flat skin tones and matte lips have been made to look much closer to the original this time.
I saw no mention of reverting changes to the lip shapes/sizes or eye brow color so the redone benchmark will probably not fix what they ruined in my femelezen. It's good they delivered the free fantasia they promised as I will be using one to change my character's race. Hopefully Hrothgal face 3 will get her missing eye lashes in the updated version of the benchmark or by expansion release.
Honestly this makes me very happy that the feedback was considered. Even if it's redrawn 2.0 aesthetics, it just feels like the character has details and personality again.
They specifically noted there were issues with “mouth scaling” in the first benchmark too, so hopefully there will be a noticeable difference in the new one.The lips is part of the whole texture package (notably the diffuse texture, which is the base image texture and it doesn't follow the same shape than OG). The dimples on the sides of the mouth however can be a combination of 3D mesh and normal mapping, hard to tell for sure. For the eyes, it's definitely the 3D mesh shape of the edges of the eye, if that's what you're pointing out here.
Speaking of… wasn’t today the target date for the new benchmark? I really want to get in there and play with it!
I mean they clearly emphasized that they didn't mention all the changes.
Pushed to Monday because if they release it today they won't be able to address any issue with it during the weekend.
Oh, and by the way the reason yoshiP gives for this is not "because the staff deserve to rest on the weekend" but "because power to our offices will be cut all weekend for a building inspection". Sure seems like a great boss
Just saw the announcement… so far I think things look a lot better! And while they didn’t show all the races, the Lala and Hyurs they showed had mouths much closer to how they are now, so I’m hopeful the other races got the fixes they needed too. They specifically noted there were issues with “mouth scaling” in the first benchmark too, so hopefully there will be a noticeable difference in the new one.

Guess we have another 3 days to wait… but I was also happy to see them clarify that the new 60-minute feature for Fantasia is going to apply to all of them, and not just the free one we’re getting with Dawntrail!
Wowzers
Looks like they fixed the weird subsurface scattering.
Well, guess what? Oh. Well. They aren't going to redo everything again in 3 weeks before 6/28 if people are unhappy again. Not everyone is going to be pleased. So you make the choice to tweak your character or accept it. The game isn't being delayed. Period. And the team has done the best they can. They never promised you would get exact recreations of your character and have been very transparent about that. Times change. Sorry. You know that a fantasia will not resolve the issues people had, right? You can't tweak things because all we have is certain presets.
And telling people to "get over it", to ignore the fact that the characters that they looked at, played with, and identified with for years are forcibly changed, thats one hell of a trash take, not gonna lie. That sort of empathy lacking response is just sad, man. Do better.
It would not have been "too much" to recreate the faces we already have with higher polygon count.
"The worst foe lies within the self."
I think your knee-jerk reaction to their statement isn't any better. They didn't say "just get over it", they said that no matter what it may not be what you want your character to be and the only option is to just accept it. I've already accepted that the way I want my character to look like may not be possible in the new update. My options are get over it or stop playing forever. Guess what I chose. You know that a fantasia will not resolve the issues people had, right? You can't tweak things because all we have is certain presets.

Then people would complain that a graphical update to improve things hadn't improved anything. The devs can't really win here. Someone is going to be upset about something whichever way they go. They acknowledged that there may be differences and that's why they're giving a free fantasia in case there are tweaks that need to be made.
