New Ranged DPS Idea for 8.0

Job Name: Gunslinger
Weapons: Dual Guns/Combined Rifle

Similar to Viper its weapons combine into single rifle, similar to the character Sazh from FF13. It will in a sense be a ranged Viper, specializing in abilities and weapon skills that have more of an aoe focus while in duel wield mode, and when in Rifle mode will focus more on single target abilities and skills.

A Cartridge mechanic similar to Gunbreaker with the Combo actions helping to build up the gauge, along with a similar mechanic to Bard's Coda to help improve the damage of a burst GCD ability

Could bring back and adapt the old MCH mechanics involving ammunition from Pre-Shadowbringers, with each bullet granting special effects to the character like a mini summoner egi mechanic and could even include some of the old abilities as well such as:

Reload
Quick Reload
Grenado Shot
Lead Shot
Gauss Barrel

Have Rapid Fire as a built-in trait

Add a Dodge Roll Ability for a Dash

Add a Quick Load Ability to instantly fill gauge

This could potentially free up MCH, to become more of an "inventor" role, and free it up from the expectations of having gun-based abilities and skills, and maybe make it a bit more technical like pictomancer.

interesting. although I'm more interested in a pure archer, so that the current BRD can turn into a pure bard. very unlikely though, lol. most likely we'll get a ranged job with crossbow as the main weapon.

It's not the worst idea but I would much rather have blitzballer before that. Much more distinct job fantasy with more design space.

I also am just generally not liking this "bring back old elements" we have been getting with Reaper (DRK), Sage (SCH), and Viper (DRG and NIN). It kind of started with SAM/RDM gutting DRK and I would rather we push against that line of thinking as long as we can before the inevitable dual pistol job.

We would probably see blitzballer as a limited job in the future, because the fans would want to play bliztball as well. Which I would be okay with if they flesh it out and have us do some old content to help boost it's abilities or a mechanic where we go out into the world looking for inspiration for new abilities to use in the blitzball arena, maybe have a drain mechanic from ff8 to stockpile abilities and to prevent overuse in the arena, though they would have to update the arena each update to keep an eye on the meta and regulate it to keep the job and blitzball interesting.

I don't see Blitzballer being a limited job, unless teaming up with other Blitzballers allowed players to engage with trials/raids as a sort of "blitzball game" rather than traditional 4/8 man roles.

I definitely don't think it would matter whether it is limited or normal, regardless of if they implement a blitzball game mode.

And I definitely don't think it will draw from FF8 as inspiration. An "athlete" job has plenty of design space, both as a concept and drawing from 3+ characters from FFX, that it doesn't need to pull from other FFs to flesh itself out.
