I would be fine with glamours to implement this, but honestly SMN would get too cluttered conceptually if it were summoning 8+ summons per rotation. I like the elegance of Ifrit/Titan/Garuda and the correlation to carbuncle types (two of which were pulled from FFIX).

Personally, I think the only summon out of the remaining three which would actually add something to SMN as a job fantasy would be Shiva. Diamond Carbuncle was also in FFIX. Shiva has a Diamond Dust ability and would logically be represented by a diamond. Shiva is the only summon with as much plot relevance in ARR/HW as Ifrit/Titan/Garuda. And Shiva could easily work as a sort of "trance" form for SMN, just like Ysayle.

Imo, the perfect capstone for SMN would have been a diamond gem that could usurp the lego phase with a Shiva phase. It fits thematically with all of SMN's other motifs and doesn't have to stretch like a "Ramuh Amethyst" or "Leviathan Aquamarine" would. Ramuh and Leviathan are lame and we don't need them. Honestly I don't even like Shiva much, but so far as the FFXIV plot and and SMN's design go she would just make a lot of sense.

But absent that suggestion, just do egi glamours. I don't want to be obligated to play Shiva/Ramuh/Leviathan in a locked rotation on top of what we already have, it would make the job feel even more like a rote checklist, not less.

    ?
you do realize that we've been summoning 8 summons every 2 minutes rotation, dont you? except 3 of them (ifrit titan garuda) are repeated twice. simply make them not repeat at all and there will be 3 free summon spots, which can be filled by shiva ramuh and leviathan.

but eh I bet FFXIV is the only FF game youve played so far anyway, so you dont understand the importance of having those 3 summons.

    Presumptuous.

I have played most FF games. Enough to realize that (1) the series used to be about far more and more varied summons than lame Ramuh and Leviathan; and (2) often the better FFs were the ones that did not just repeat the same summons but introduced new ideas: Maduin and Bismarck, Typhon and Knights of the Round, Quetzacoatl and Eden, Valefor and Anima, Brynhildr and Hecaton. In fact, Ramuh and Leviathan didn't even appear in X and XIII and those games were better for it.

I don't feel the need to be completionist, particularly where FFXIV's lore places less emphasis on those three summons (well, especially Ramuh and Leviathan). I personally hate the "six summons" canon as is pertains to FF, since it has been repeated several times now to the detriment of FF's storytelling and worldbuilding creativity. The series likely would not be suffering so much if it hadn't repeated the XI summons as central pillars of its story for XIV, XV, AND XVI.

My point is that at least now, SMN feels like it has three basic summons and two powerful summon phases. Even if Ifrit/Titan/Garuda are repeated twice, their repetition in the rotation gives them enough screen time to feel like a sort of base set of skills for SMN. Replacing one of those phases with three new summons will remove any weightiness or intentionality to SMN's kit, just constantly spamming random-bullshit-go. There is intentionality in its current design by focusing on a subset of summons.

Again, I do not have any issue at all with the devs allowing players to glamour summons. I think that would be a very elegant way of allowing players who want to use Shiva/Ramuh/Leviathan to do so without visually overcluttering SMN. Players have also suggested Warring Triad glamours which I am in favor of. But I don't think forcing SMN players to rotate through increasingly brief and compressed spectacles is good design.

Honestly, I am glad rote fans like you, without a shred of imagination other than to repeat what has already been done,do not design this game. That sort of SMN design in a game like FFXIV would feel even more trivialized than it is now.
