Robbing gap closers of damage makes the game even less fun.

DRG's Spineshatter dive, PLD's Intervene etc are announced for having their damage taken off, leaving them as just a gap closer.

    Just. Leave. Things. Alone.

Controller players especially are able to enjoy using the 2 Spineshatters and Dragonfire Dive to chain bounce 3 enemies (switching targets between each action), more fun after 180+ Elusive jumping towards them beforehand. Why remove fun? There is no valid reason to remove the damage the gap closers do. This so game is going to drop off so hard if this Nintendo Mentality continues to be applied to the game. Far more often than not, the fun you have in any game is the fun you make for yourself, not the fun that's been 'planned' for you. Even in it's current state, I cannot recommend this game to anyone and will probably start actively warning people away from this dying game. There is a certain worrying symbolism in targetting this random aspect of the game and taking it away, as any other random fun thing could get deleted from the game if they notice it. The future of this game is sadly just more and more restrictions and gameplay funnelling.

Its true there was no good reason to do that and i wonder if that will hit me as RDM as well... IDK why they always that the fun things. It was also really satisfying to finish of that random trashmob with an nice jump. And... does the new gabcloser even generate hate as well?

Would you rather have spineshatter dive or 2 charges of dragonfire dive on a 60 second cooldown? For single target potency having two charges of spineshatter forces them to keep dragonfire dive as a 120 second cooldown with one charge to keep the job balanced.

Personally I'd rather be using dragonfire dive more. It's a cooler button to press, has a way better animation, and way more utility in trash pulls.

    To each their own though.

But for dragoon specifically, the gap closer should have surely been a jump, not a dash. I don't like the idea of gap closers being homogenised across jobs.
I surely agree with this. Tying damage to movement actions just completely defeat the idea of utility. Might as well just turn them into yet another common damaging oGCD since you can't actually utilise the gap closer in an optimized situation.

Just ask RDM players how many times they get to use Displacement? Now, imagine if that action was detached from Engagement and had no damage component. I could see many situational uses since it would have minimal impact on your damage.

    This is the valid reason:

They become completely thoughless because you'll always have them available when you need them. Planning gap closers wasn't a big ask.
Might as well not have an ability there if it's implemented like this.

And currently they're thoughtless 'fire and forget in your burst window' in 99.9% of situations, so tomato tomato, not much has changed with them going into DT on the cognitive front. They're thoughtless now and they'll be thoughtless in DT. However, you know what they could do with the new gap closers that would create skill expression that is impossible to achieve due to the limitations of the current gapclosers requiring an enemy target due to dealing damage?

    Warping to allies.

Seriously, Thunderclap is the best gapcloser in the game bar none by sheer virtue of the great plays you can make with it for uptime and movement during mechanics. I'd delete potency from gapclosers a thousand times over if it meant all melee/tanks got access to a thunderclap-clone skill.

I definitely agree with Thunderclap being a fantastic move. Aside from being able to quickly hop to an ally like BLM, MNK's thunderclap is really good for catching up to allies and also maintaining uptime on bosses , especially with how they sometimes reposition-teleport to the edge or middle of arenas quite frequently as of late.

I recall in P5S the double-dash patterns you could just jump on the boss twice without dropping any GCDs, another example would be those alliance raid bosses that like to triple jump, you can follow each leap quite comfortably. Honourable mention to most knockback mechanics too, you can kinda skip those with a good timed leap to negate the knockback effect which is nice in the occasional cases you get KB'd more than once in 120s.

You can definitely play a MNK like a magic-less BLM with 3x uses of Aetherial Manipulation and slide across the map like crazy. (If you want)
