Or they pull a SAM and say the feedback was too overwhelmingly negative and now the devs are sulking in the corner instead of fixing it. Just to teach you a lesson about being nice, because the criticism didn't hit some invisible goldilocks zone.

It's also wild that us getting gutted was priority... but war still running around like this is a single player rpg. The chosen one, the holy trinity incarnate, single handedly removing the need for healers at all.
But yeah... those special non standard rotations we had amirite?
Apparently "non-standard" just means any ability to adjust your rotation around movement and downtime too, as far as the devs are concerned.
I agree with everything you said! I also don't like how you can not use thunder whenever you want for the chance to do a double thunder cast back to back - that was so satisfying, or how you can't put thunder III on multiple enemies and now have to switch between fire and ice to re use the thunder spell. its so dumb honestly and nobody asked for these changes. I really hope SE can change their mind. They seem to be taking the flexibility out of this class and simplifying it.

I keep by my opinion, that the blm is nice.
Mp regeneration is a matter of few seconds. You can have a very long fire phase. And, you are even able to Spam lightning, because its allways ready with a switch or mana Front.
Adding to that they also fixed the dumpster fire that was 4.0 MCH as well back then and did significant changes to the whole skill effects and rotation. The x.05 patch is usually where you can expect the most of those, and x.1 for bigger reworks (like Nin in ShB for example). This isn't my first rodeo with issues like this- while DT BLM is literally the worst state I've seen BLM be in, in terms of gameplay, BLM also had severe issues in 4.0 (and, to a lesser extent, 3.0). In both of those situations, the issue were that the timers were too short (AF was originally 10s). In both cases, issues were addressed on the .05 patch. I'd honestly brace myself to endure this for a couple of months.
Having gotten to play a few levels of the new design by now, my immediate complaint is that it's a little jarring how short the umbral cycle is now, especially since you don't actually regain MP until after B4 or whatever's animation is over. This means that you end up fastcasting or transpose-firestarting when your HUD still indicates that you've got like 200mp to your name, which works fine but feels very weird.
The whole Thunderstorm mechanic also feels a little superfluous; if they wanted to guard against player error they could just make Thunder aways free and instant to cast but only usable under AF or UI.
I'm also wondering if going like F4-F4-F4-(swiftcast)Flare might not be a way to cheat a flare star out of a short/no-hearts astral cycle.
Meanwhile picto was handed everything blm lost. Here's 3+ 1000+ potency attacks that you can prep, hold on to and cast whenever with no drop off, timers. Or penalty. That's the part that bothers me. We wouldn't be doing more damage than them right now, yet they got the flexibility, prepping at any point as instant out of combat, a better artherial manipulation. A party buff, AND bigger damage. We're never getting an invite with that on the table. It's like when we got ignored for summoner and rdm because we didn't get raise.
Single target flare is really bad damage. The Balance theorycrafters did the math it's not worth using outside of extremely niche scenarios.
I 100% agree with this! This is what made Black Mage fun for me too! It's the only dps I play and the other casters are too boring for me. I tried Red Mage but it's almost just as boring as Summoner.Simply going to add my voice in agreement with the poster. I'm a BLM main since ARR and endwalker was the most fun I ever had playing the job. What made the job so fun was the adaptability of the rotation giving you a puzzle in a sense during each new encounter, having to figure out the best rotation to fit the timeline and movement of the fight. +1
