    So, the button merging feature... did I get this right?

    It was kind of vague to me:

    The action merging QoL feature, is that just for shifting actions we have already (e.g. Earthly Star) or that's gonna be a feature for the 1-2-3 filler combos that don't have the need to branch?

    I thought the former, but then I saw Pictomancer play and they have a cast 1-2-3 combo using the same button.

    The way I understood it is it being a system that will let you choose rather flexibly how you want actions to be represented that are directly chained to each other.

    Using Dragoon as an example, Jump/High Jump is the only way to access Mirage Dive, so you can use this system to make High Jump turn into Mirage Dive when under "Mirage Dive ready) or you can keep the hotkeys separate, depending on your preference. Same will likely apply to the combo paths for Heaven's Thrust, Chaotic Spring and Coerthan Torment.

    So putting aside regular combo actions, this will give you flexibility for the following actions:
    • PLD - possibly Requiescat -> Confiteor -> Blade combo + Atonement combo, Fight or Flight -> Goring Blade
    • WAR - possibly Inner Release -> Primal Rend -> new finisher OR Inner Release into new action for using 3x beast action under IR
    • DRK - Living Shadow new continuing action
    • GNB - new Bloodfest combo, No Mercy -> Sonic Break
    • SAM - Ikishoten (+50 gauge) -> Ogi Namikiri -> Kaeshi: Namikiri, Meikyo Shisui -> Tsubame Gaeshi
    • RPR - Arcane Circle -> Plentiful Harvest, Enshroud -> Communio
    • MNK - new Riddle bonus actions each, rest unsure
    • NIN - Bunshin -> Phantom Kamaitachi
    • BRD - Wanderer's Minuet -> Pitch Perfect, Apex Arrow -> Blast Arrow, Radiant Finale -> new finisher
    • MCH - either Turret/Queen -> Overdrive or Automaton Queen -> new missile barrage finisher, reassambled: Chainsaw -> Chainsaw 2 (possibly other powertools as well), Hypercharge -> Heat Blast/Auto Crossbow
    • DNC - Devilment -> Starfall Dance, Fan Dance I/II -> FD III, Flourish -> FD IV or new Flourish bonus action, Saber Dance -> Saber Dance 2
    • BLM - Ley Lines -> Moving Leylines or Between the Lines, Fire IV <-> Blizzard IV, Flare <-> Freeze, Despair <-> Umbral Soul (all depending on current aspect)
    • SMN - Summon Bahamut/Phoenix/Solar Bahamut -> their respective Enkindle, Searing Light -> new combo action
    • RDM - melee combo, aoe combo
    • WHM - Presence of Mind -> new PoM attack action
    • SCH - Chain Stratagem -> new CS attack action
    • AST - Divination -> new Div. attack action(?)

    This list is SPECULATIVE and not indicative of the final product but what can be expected.

    I thought this was what it meant at first too… sad they couldn’t make it both ways. Maybe they’ll make it an option in the future though, now that they’ve opened the door.

    Exactly. With this setting, the current combos we have will not overwrite existing buttons/abilities anymore, we can give them separate hotkeys.
    This makes me happy because I hate that RDM's Scorch and Resolution share the same button and they both overwrite Jolt.

    Pressing the same few buttons over and over again is extremely boring to me, which is why I don't play healers and PvP! I want to press dozens of buttons! But if people want to press less buttons that's okay too, that's why options are good! This new in-game setting is a good start, hopefully SE will improve it in the future and even let people turn 1-2-3 combos into 1-1-1 if they want. It's all good as long as it's optional.

    Sadly its the opposite though many, especially those with disabilities would love a 1-1-1 for the basic. I think this should be a option. They seemingly look at what plugins people use and a quick google search shows that 1-1-1 like pvp is popular. I am sure they have reasons to be against it but if its something thats helps people why not? People who dont want to do it can just disable it while people that could get a use out of it could have an easier time playing.

    No to pvp combos, never pvp combos, remove combos entirely from the game before that happens.

    It would be an optional QoL feature just like what we are getting. The difference in skill between a guy pressing 123 and the other pressing 111 will not suddenly tank skill expression.

    Unironically they should remove unbranching basic combos, they bring literally nothing. No choice, no agency, failure state is just to misclick a skill at best.
