Good morning! Thank you for posting in the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

We apologize for any inconvenience experienced when trying to play Final Fantasy XIV. For us to better assist you, please respond with the following information:

What Platform are you using? (Steam/Windows/Mac/PS4 etc.)
How often does the issue occur?

Could you provide the exact error message received?
Are you running any additional programs alongside Final Fantasy XIV?
Does this crash occur on more than one character?
When the crash happens, is the PC over heating at all?
Were any update or changes made to the PC around the time of the crash?
Does this issue occur if the game is run in full screen mode? Does it happen in borderless or windowed mode?

Could you provide a system report? Simply go to the 'Config' option on the Final Fantasy XIV launcher and to the right of 'System Information' click on 'Display.
All steps taken to resolve the issue:

Hi, I'm playing through the ffxiv launcher and on PC. Usually all I have running alongside FFXIV is Discord for talking to party and fc mates. The overlay is disabled, so that isn't causing the issue, and I've been running it alongside for several years without problems.

The issue occurred once on Sunday evening and twice in succession on Monday. Sunday and Monday happened on different characters. PC is not overheating when the issue occurs.

With further repetition, interacting with the bishop and exiting without appraising doesn't cause the issue. I also had a crash going back into palace of the dead upon entering later the same day, causing a ko on my save.

There was no error code or message provided as the game literally just closes, without anything. Only today has it begun providing a directx error message:

An unexpected error has occurred. Exiting FINAL FANTASY XIV. 2024-04-22_20:17

    ffxiv_dx11.exe+16B4E1D
    ffxiv_dx11.exe+6270C
    ffxiv_dx11.exe+60D93
    ffxiv_dx11.exe+15FAF70
    ffxiv_dx11.exe+15FC61F
    ffxiv_dx11.exe+15FF0D5
    ffxiv_dx11.exe+4BDBDC
    ffxiv_dx11.exe+1C05E2
There was a windows update recently. No new progams have been installed on my computer since the issue began.

I have run the 'repair files' option through the ffxiv launcher, and now it won't let me even load into the overworld to actually test windowed/fullscreen. I get crashed out at the point of loading my character into the game.
