Scholar's New Fusion Stance

Shown in the job gameplay trailer, Scholar looks like it will become a Hemitheos from Pandaemonium by fusing with Seraph to become a big fairy itself...

This wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that it gives it this angel aesthetic that White Mage already has.

It also seems to give the character a change to their hair rather than a hood, with angel wings instead of fairy wings. Along with a bright WHITE robe.

I think this muddies the job's identity, since this ability will happen every couple of minutes in battle.

I'm already hearing complaints from Scholar mains, and Scholar was the first healer I ever leveled in this game. It should retain its identity as a Nymian tactician and combat medic.

my biggest issue with this transformation is that its kinda ugly and not subtle enough. im totally fine with the idea.. tho.. i want sch to have a closer relationship to its farie instead of just. hi, who are you and why are you stalking my tank

You're not even fusing with Seraph considering you can summon them while in the Seraphism state.

That being said "press button to cosplay as a white mage" feels completely out of place. SCH did not need another Healing cooldown, much less one that doesn't fit aesthetically with the rest of the kit.

I want to see a proper front view + male version, before I leave feedback. Though, I'm all with you about job identity. I can't really relate Scholar with angel astheatics...

My first thought was that if someone had told me a job was going to have a skill that would turn them into an angel, I would have guessed WHM way before SCH. And without having job quests that could make it lore-compliant with a little exposition, I feel like this is just going to feel really out of left field. I don't think I hate it, but I definitely don't like it much, at least for SCH.

The white hood and robe don't look good and don't match SCH's aesthetic, it probably should have just been fairy wings.

But I assume they didn't want to just do wings since WHM already does that, so they used the same method as Reaper to give a temp glam. But the glam seems kinda bad, if it was at all evocative of how the fairy looks it would be better but it just looks like some plain robes.

Unfortunately I think Yoshi-P painted the scholar into a corner with this. The fairy has been a part of the "identity" of the scholar since it's inception at level 30. While the Conjurer has this entire "nature-druid" type theme to them.
WHM - Nature (Air, Water, Earth)
AST - Stars/Astrology
SCH - Faerie aesthetic
SGE - Tech

If Sage didn't exist, I'd say yes, maybe this is a little confusing, but unless they want to retroactively change what White Mage and Scholar are, I think there's no where else to go for Scholar. The scholar has discovered the fairy, figured out her backstory, and become one with the fairy... kind of. Meanwhile this kind of transform seems more appropriate "to" the white mage, but there are no faerie aspects about them. There are some "aetherial"-like references in the ARR-HW tier magic (Holy, Tetragrammaton, Divine Benison) but then at level 70 it goes in another direction. Never mind all the whine about the lily system.

(I say this while playing White mage and running around wearing the Angel wings when not in duties)

What would have made sense is for that transform to have distinct "fairy" wings. It clearly isn't "angel wings" but it also isn't clearly fairy either (because it's been established that fairies have butterfly-style wings not bird-style wings.)

Since the skill is based off of Seraph, and Seraph is an angel-themed fairy, I am fine with the angel theming.

What I am NOT okay with though is the quality of those wings. Seraph has wide, spread open blue glowy wings. The wings on this outfit are crumpled cosplay-looking gold(?) and don't seem in any way animated, making them look very cheap.

Simply spreading the wings, making them white/blue and add a soft glow would at least kinda make the outfit feel like a Seraph-glam. As it stands it just looks bad to me.

I'm just here to add my voice to the OP's: Scholar is a fairy job, and I love it for that. I am not interested in, and would very much prefer not to have, angel theming; that seems like a White Mage thing. To be clear, I don't mind the transformation aspect, but I would like it to be distinctly about Il Mheg-type (i.e. fairy) aesthetics, for example, and not something that is trending toward sin eater.
