and now we get another higher level of bahamut. FFVII has 3 different bahamut summons. It's cool.
It's not the same. FFVII has 3 different bahamut ALONG with shiva ramuh levi & odin. If we get Solar Bahamut as the 2nd bahamut AFTER we've got Shiva Ramuh Levi & Odin, then I'd be hyped. But nah, we got the 2nd bahamut instead of what we've been asking for for 6 years (shiva ramuh levi), and I'm not happy about it in the slightest.
You can never please everyone. Personally I have zero interest in shiva ramuh or leviathan as summons and would take solar bahamut over all 3 any day. I understand there is a demographic that wants shiva ramuh and leviathan, but it's not everyone. I would even take a third bahamut or a second phoenix over shiva ramuh and leviathan personally. It's not the same. FFVII has 3 different bahamut ALONG with shiva ramuh levi & odin. Yeah they do, but by that logic the Solar Bahamut should've been a trait upgrade to the regular Bahamut since those summons in FF7 are different, but upgrades. By the time you get the 3rd, you no longer will be using the 1st one.
Comparing ffvii summons to mmo rotations is apples to oranges. We'll start out with regular bahamut, do an eikon phase, get fired up with phoenix, do another eikon phase, and then we enter solar bahamut for the climax of the rotation. Then another eikon phase and the loop starts over with regular bahamut. It's more exciting this way. If it was just a trait upgrade, the job would play the same with newer animations and higher potency.
Personally I don't get the disappointment, but to each their own. Everyone wants different stuff and you can only get one outcome.

You know what could have been nice, since we unlock spells related to the primals each time we summon ? Momentarily throw away the book, and have a fast sword moveset borrowing from the agile-looking new sword Bahamut, instead of the recycled original one.
That’s exactly what I wanted to see myself… it kinda feels off to have a third demi with the same exact gem summons in between. Like shouldn’t we have to build up to that? lol Maybe in 8.0… feels like they went with a “we need something big and flashy for level 100” and then kicking the major job updates to the next expansion. If there’s one thing that personally frustrates me more then anything is how they had the perfect choice for a 7.0 SMN that could later be expanded upon in 8.0 (I’m really holding the devs to that)
Add in Ramuh, Leviathan and Shiva on an even number cycle, and make Shinryu as the capstone summon instead. It’s already really cool looking, it’s not just another Bahamut, it would have been something unique with SMN instead of the same old summons we’ve always had in the series. And it would been a natural build up, what with the six elemental summons that Shinryu uses the attacks of, and the idea of the 7th Astral era building into a possible 8th Umbral calamity that was avoided.
But instead we’re stuck with our totally original Demi (do not steal) possibly forever
Otherwise, I’m still annoyed that the Topaz rites are still instant casts when they should have cast times, The job needs to have its feet planted more and be an actual caster. And that’s before factoring in how they should change all the summoning abilities from Spells into abilities. That would make there be more uses of Ruin, makes use of all the weave windows we have, and give the rotation some room to breathe, like dear god one single Gcd is not enough, makes the whole rotation blob together that makes the burst not feel special.
Also Carby still being a fancy looking Cheerleader minion, but that’s an entirely new discussion there.
As far as cast times goes, I could go either way on that… personally I like the movement of it, and I think with the 4 casters we have a nice range of mobility options between them. The rotation flows nicely, although I’d like something more than Ruin/Tri-Disaster spam for those times I need to delay going into my burst. I want Physick to either get the potency of a Vercure or just go away. And I think keeping the rez is fine; we have two casters that can and two that can’t, so it’s balanced in that way. They should give Carby my auto attacks at least, but I really don’t want like 4 buttons for each egi again.
I'm still just baffled if this is supposed to represent a "Hydaelyn" summon. I mean many other perplexing things, but of all the things they could have done to represent her, we didn't need Bahamut-again.
I would have liked just some simple weavable Hydaelyn solar blasts over this.
Unless Solar has some underlying special mechanics going for it I'm not too keen on the S.Bahamut > Bahamut > S.Bahamut > Phoenix fixed rotation they got going here. 4 minutes to Phoenix and most fights last less then 4 minutes.
Players are overall underwhelmed compared to last expansion where you got 3 baller summon attacks on top of summon attacks with a number of charges to use.
It's such a baffling design choice to me. SMN is becoming Bahamut Cultist.
