    DDOS: Refund time impacted attacks please

    The ongoing DDOS attacks are significantly disrupting this month's sub. As paying customers, it is reasonable to request compensation for the significant downtime.

    The cause of the service disruption is irrelevant to customers; what matters is that we are not receiving what we paid for. Just like with undelivered food or online orders, the responsibility lies with the provider, not the consumer.

    SE's competition recognizes this and offers time back for significant service interruptions, acknowledging their inability to fulfill their service commitment.

    We can sympathize with SE's plight here. But it is not our burden to bear. We do not run the company, we just pay for the time. We are not getting what we paid for, therefore a refund on the time lost to these attacks is appropriate.

    Agreed it's impacted us for almost a week now I think we should at least get free play time for as long as the ddos is a issue.

    Doubt we will get refunded

    They typically wait until enough people persistently call for something in order for them to move on it (think Endwalker capstone fight rebalance).

    Ask people to share their opinions on the forum and we will have a better chance of being heard.

    Unlikely. They aren't going to refund time, or grant free time based on very inconsistent attacks and service outages. Bar the initial day of the attacks where it was nigh on complete outage, it has been very inconsistent since then. Both in the impact itself, and the users it has affected.

    It would be nice but it just simply isn't realistic, nor easily justifiable IMO.

    You paid for a service. You were not provided that service. You should be refunded for the time lost at this point.

    This is not without precedent within the MMO industry. It just depends on how readily we accept it as a community.

    The ToS specifically protects them for failure to provide service. So if the do it it's because they feel they have to from a public relations viewpoint.

    You did pay for a service and I am simply questioning the significance of that inability to provide said service due to attacks. Again, bar the initial day I just don't simply think it is substantive enough to warrant it.

    To put it into perspective, on the initial day of the attack, where the pacing would have been most justified I lost approx., 7-8 hours of service time. Since then, I have only had very inconsistent outages. E.g., I've disconnected twice today and got back on after a couple of minutes. Between today and that initial day, I have maybe disconnected 2-3 times.

    It is not out of precedent within the MMO industry, heck, it's not even without precedent for Square Enix - I just simply don't think it is substantive enough to come under this precedent.

    If this attack were sustained at the pace seen on the 6th and 7th then this would be entirely different. It just simply hasn't managed to maintain that standard.

    They typically only give extra sub time if the maintenance is like 48 hours or they have lots of maintenances within a few day period, which has almost never happened (but my understanding is it will happen prior to Dawntrail release).

    The DDoS just disconnects or lags you for a few minutes, it doesn't affect all data centers equally and it's probably not even targeted at SE directly (when I did a trace, the issues seemed to be the usual suspects like NTT while SE's servers had a perfect connection).

    This is my thought. The game runs fine nearly all the time. How much would you get reimbursed for? 2 days (and it wasn't even 2 full days down) is going to get you a whole $1 in credit.
