They already removed cast times from one caster and procs from one ranged job. Add one melee without positionals please. If people don't want to play it, they don't have to. There would be 5 other melees to choose from.![]()

Who?I wonder if part of the reason why this topic is being rehashed now is because Xeno suggested it recently. I think people tend to parrot on whatever they hear without attempting to formulate their own opinions.
It's unfortunate, because I've seen a lot of detrimental takes be propagated that way.
Anyways, suggesting that people who disagree with you are just mindlessly agreeing with someone else and not thinking for themselves is pretty insulting.
Positionals have always frustrated me as designed. When I first started playing out in the overworld still doing quests, I kept trying to stun things so I could do the positional, wondering to myself how on earth, these were supposed to work. They felt bad from the get go.
Well to be fair people that want to remove things are pretty mindless.
i love positionals. and you're right. they only give that much more dmg anyway... i would like if they made the difference between hitting a positional and not hitting one, larger again.
there are very few bosses where its really getting annoying with all the jumping around, but with true north thsts more often than not no problem.
i also do not see why wall bosses are an argument against positionals. sure i would rather have less of them (and also smaller hitboxes) but now you have bosses where it doesnt matter and bosses where you can enjoy them. works for me.
i dislike ranged jobs because you just stand there doing your rotation, thats boring. dont force the melees to do the same. and no mindlessly jumping around isnt the same feeling.
i would love if they bring that shb-dragoon mechanic back. you had to hit your last poditional in order to upgrade the first skill of your next combo. thst was so much more satisfying.
and also: i do think there should be differences in each job.
make a melee without any positionals for the people who dont like them. thats fine. then we have jobs like reaper without that many positionals. next one would be dragoon with a few more... and then we have monk... give monk all of its podtionsals back. that all leads to a nice variety (i know, not something we see a lot of nowadays).
and yes, its fine if not every job gets played evenly. but the minority of players want to have fun too... there should be jobs fof them too.
pls for the games sake do not make the gameplay even more boring.

Do we have to make the game even easier for next expansion?
It's bad enough classes has gotten even easier to use, especially summoner. It's bad enough that playing within the role has gotten easier. Do we really have to remove positionals for the sake of easier gameplay? It's already starting to slowly get to the point where you could just afk in the middle of fights and there's no penalties whatsoever (excluding gear being underleveled).
Positionals are not only a melee thing. They involve the entire party, particularly the tanks, but it also depends on the specific boss. You do require everyone to work in some way to get them all in fights like P11S.
As for normal duties such as alliance raids, the main issue is normally tanks trying to reposition the boss middle and looking north all the time when it's not needed. Unless the boss absolutely needs to be there, it's not required to rotate or move it. Just wait till it teleports itself or move it only when required. Rotating the boss fast will also mess up with positionals.
While missing them is not a huge loss, it's one of the few optimization options left to melee so they should not be removed. Whether hitting them should yield more DPS than they do now or not is another question entirely though.
This would be extremely punishing due to Raiden Thrust's scale generation. They're not going to go back to this and if they did, they'd have to compensate for such a high failure state that can be out of your control in disorganized groups, mostly relevant for PF Savage and Ultimate groups. And I doubt they'd do such compensation for DRG.

I love positional skills. Personally I wish they would add more of them, we already have 2 charges of true north so that's pretty good for moments where you can't hit a positional. For reaper it almost lets you hit every positional without actually positioning too much.
It would honestly be awesome if Viper had a positional on every ability, though I'm sure it won't.
Positionals make melee more fun to play and diversify it from ranged. If I were to flip the situation and say "I wish they would add positionals to Ranged, and remove all cast times from the game" People wouldn't like that very much. Different playstyles interest different people, some people like standing there just hitting the button, some people like doing that but having a cast time, and some people like being right up close the monster and moving around to deal a bit extra damage.
I don't want them to make casters and ranged more like melee, I just don't play those jobs that often, every job doesn't have to be for every person. It's good to have some kind of uniqueness to them, even if I don't personally like the thing that makes them unique (casting, standing still) much.
There's no need to simplify things any further just to make the difference between ranged and melee be how far they are from the boss.
