With Esuna being so under utilized nowadays, I think the battle team just keep it in for older fights and dungeons that utilized it but haven't given it a second thought since. ┐(´∀`)┌
Because it was designed in 2.0, not 6.0.
It may not seem like a big difference, but it still asks you to stop and start the cast even if it's almost impossible to cancel it. You can't just instacast it while running.
I've been wondering myself. In WoW my dispel was instant. In this game, a lot of times if the debuff isn't a cleanse or you die thing, like a mild poison, then I wonder if it's actually worth it from a numbers perspective to esuna it because of the amount of time it takes between being able to cast it and the effect going off the DoT has already ticked a bit.
The little cast time does not bother me. What does bother me from the button? The fact that only one debuff that gets cleansed -randomly- (looking at you cleansing bad breath lol).
I wonder why Esuna has a freaking 2.5s recast time.
Because it's on the GCD? Or do you mean, you want it to have a longer recast?
A tangent on Esuna and Bad Breath; the worst effect of Bad Breath is generally the paralysis (unless they're a healer in which case arguably Silence though this has a shorter duration). You can specifically target the Paralysis immediately for group members (self and chocobo companion included) if you use a Spine Drops, even if you're not playing healer.
They're only melee range and can only be used once per 90 sec, but they're dirt cheap from a vendor (360ish gil), oGCD, stack to 999, can be assigned to the hot bar, and don't share a cooldown with your offensive tinctures.
I would love if the cast and recast time were the same but it does let you weave a lustrate or Tetragrammaton in afterward which is nice sometimes. I still think Esuna should be a trait tied to the tiny heals like Cure, Physick, etc. That way you get a tiny heal and a random debuff removed for the cast time involved.
