To be honest, I think you're spot on. I believe that the geological anomaly is coming in 1.23.

This post by Yoshida is what makes me think that we're likely to see environmental changes related to the Seventh Umbral Era storyline in patch 1.23. And as you say, the 2.0 PDFs say that "current players" will get to discover the mysteries of the anomaly.

I could certainly be wrong: the geological anomaly might not be among the "map objects" we'll be getting. And to be honest, it is a little hard to believe that we'd get to see something so drastically different in the world prior to 2.0 and the new engine.

Still, I kind of think it's going to happen.

I have a feeling it wont immediately happen with 1.23. Probably with 1.23a or b. To spread the content out till the beta.

With how much they like to "hype players by saying/doing nothing at all"..I'm betting 1.23h, just before Alpha.

in fact yeah it will probably happen @ 1.23a with what the "Got Gobbue" article tells us.
