Damn what's with all the weird animal costumes they seem to lump into almost every event now....All these rewards are pretty horrible to me.

Blame Sakaguchi one of people responsible for the Final Fantasy series. He's asked Yoshida for a Kappa suit and mask to be put into the game a few times. I want to say it was at the EU fan fest where he walked onto the stage in a kappa suit.

I do think they would eventually have gotten around to a Kappa suit, but Sakaguchi asking almost certainly sped up the process.
